Must have happened after you left. I was there pretty early this morning. Guess it'll happen every so often.
I suppose the best we can do is clean it up when we see it.
Hope you had a good shooting day.
I'm going to be out at the south site tomorrow morning around 9 sighting in my EOtech. I'd love to meet some other club members if anyone is up for it! Hopefully the weather holds up this time!
Sorry I'll miss ya, MM. Kids' soccer will eat up my day tomorrow. Maybe I'll run into you sometime. I need to finish breaking in a Sig Mosquito.
My brother has a Mosquito, and that thing is pretty fun to shoot! It's a pretty good plinker and the grip fits my hand really well.
The forcast looks decent for tomorrow and I'm leaving really early, so hopefully I can beat the weather!
Looks like you had a nice day. Let us know how it went.
I'm liking the Sig Mosquito too. It fits my hand well and points naturally for me too. Even though its not technically borken in yet, it still runs nicely overall. My son shoots it well, too.
Range report is coming tomorrow after I do some P-dog hunting with another Colorado AR-15 owner in SE Colorado. I'll be sure to have some pics!
Well, I went to the South Shooting site on Saturday as promised and saw quite a few others come and go. I was there in the red jeep from 9am to about 2pm. Overall, I put 280rds through the new AR15, all 110gr Sierra ProHunters from Silver State Armory (http://www.ssarmory.com/6.8_spc_ammo-2-1-1-1-1.aspx).
Here's an action shot, trying to make the scope work... the mount was just about 1mm too low: (sorry if the quality kind of sucks... I had to clip this from a video clip... it wasn't actually dark outside)

Here's my shiny new AR-15: http://www.flickr.com/photos/70616996@N00/3921068640/

I have a pretty high-power scope, but my mount isn't high enough, so I couldn't get it mounted properly. So Instead I had to use my Bushnell HOLOsight (made by L3 Technologies... the parent company of EOtech optics).
Temp was about 65, less than 5 kts breeze, low humidity.
A lot of my groups were crappy because my target was blowing a little with the breeze to start out, but then I found more staples for my staple gun and tacked it down tight. I was firing 3 shot groups to conserve ammo and here's my best one:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2439/...b6e1dd9e9a.jpg
I shot the upper-right group first, (third shot completely missed the paper and hit the wooden post) but then I adjusted my HOLOsight a little and that's when I got my best group. The grid on the target is a 1 inch grid, so that group in the center is about a 1.1" group. Pretty darn good for no magnification I think! (Not sure how much luck played into it, but I know i'm not THAT good of a shooter...[Tooth])
Shot some prairie dogs today in SE Colorado with a fellow 6.8x43mm AR-15 owner. No pictures because I left my camera next to my computer... [Bang]
Overall, this was a pretty great weekend! I put about 330rds through my AR and it performed absolutely beautifully. If anyone is interested in a 6.8 AR, let me send you in the right direction: http://www.AR15Performance.com

could someone pm me where the south shooting site is located? i always thought people were talking about rampart.
im getting tired of driving all the way out to pawnee, although the south site might not be any closer
Well, it is a "little" closer..
I go 285 to Pine junction, then just follow the road to Deckers. From Deckers head south on 67 for about 12 miles. Around about mile marker 87 I believe,, there is a stop sign on the west side of the road. It's the only real noticable one between Deckers and WP..
btt: I updated my range report with pics!
so is the place actually marked, or not really?
Other than the stop sign and a couple of FSR markers (that is if they haven't been shot or run over) No..
This might help a bit.

Thanks! She's definitely a tack driver! But I guess I'm done for a little while until I can build up my ammo stock a little... lol
Yes, very cool MM. Thanks for sharing.
Is anyone planning on shooting at the south site on Monday? (Columbus Day)
I might bring a small group of friends in the morning, but I don't want to crowd anyone else.
No, I'll still be on the road, returning back from an Elk hunt.
Went to shoot early this morning. It's starting to look very Rampart Range-ish.
Picked up what I could but had to stop after I filled the bed of my truck. I wasn't able to take the tailgate from a small Chevy truck that someone left. Picked up some busted bowling pins, beer cans, plywood, and cardboard boxes. Someone dropped off an Elk hide and left a cardboard box of rotting meat [Bang]. It looks a little neater, but still needs some work.
Bring trash bags next time you're there and take what you can. Keep your eyes open. Starting to get tougher to keep it clean.
I thought this would happen as soon as Rampart Range was closed. The south shoot site is well known, but Rampart was closer to the springs and keeped most of the trash(people) out. I think that Rampart is open, so thinks may get better. I would like to see us find a better spot for cub shoots. Maybe further north on the same road?
went up today with armed springs, great day nice weather, some new toys for both of us! It was not horrible but could definitely use a little more love in the cleaning area. I still say pack out what you pack in, and if you care about the area as we do (and many others) take even more ou than you brought! we took out probably three times as much as we brought today and it helped alot. happy to report not even close to rampart

Does this place get pretty popular on the weekends? If someone could pm me the directions to this site I would appreciate it.
Where you at?
Went yesterday, beautiful weather trash where I was wasn't too bad seems like very little brass.. but cleaned up lots of shotgun shells, always lots of shotgun shells[Bang]
Get to WP, head north on 67 towards Deckers..Once you get to the Rainbow Falls CG, about 2-3 miles north on the west side of the road. there is a stop sign. Turn in there. go up about 1/2-3/4 of a mile.
Today was a great day for shooting. Between last Sunday and this Sunday I sent 500rounds thru my XD and 200 rounds thru my S&W99, a fewshotty shells here and there, with a decked out 10/22 and a few friends doing the same. I think I enjoy this great American Past Time![AR15][Muaha]
Is this south sight far from Ft Collins. Can some one help me out with directions from Ft Collins. I see some one posted directions but I'm not familar with Colorado yet.
Yes, very far from Ft. Collins. Ft. Collins is actually north of the North Site, so you are probably better off shooting there. There is a thread on here of all the shooting locations mapped out on one Google map.
Yes,, Hook up with the guys here, http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22237 .
Here is the map of different shooting sites.
Colorado Shooting Sites
Went to south site yesterday before weather blew in. Other than shotgun wads pretty clean!
I just got back from the South Site. It was my first time there and it is in pretty decent shape. The only extra junk I brought back was a fair number of shotshells and a couple of targets. It gives me hope for the future shooting to see a public range that isn't trash.
I was scouting it out for a future visit bringing a trailer. Can I call dibs for a spot for next Saturday? It's a spot on the double left that ends up going south. About a half mile or so. There.s a road on the right with a closed sign in about 20 yars and a patch of bare dirt at the foot of the hill 220 yards in. I'd be happy to yield to anybody with a bigger caliber than mine, 225.

Has a fun day at the south site. Thanks to Tim K for his help. The spot I used had a target at the foot of the hill about 215 yards from my shooting position. I was shooting my repro of a Civil War 2.25 inch Bronze Mountain Rifle. I used lead Minie Balls weighing about 4 pounds with 3.5 ounces of Goex 1f BP. I was trying variations plain rounds, beeswax in the Minie cavity and wadding over the BP. Plain worked best. I got 2 out of 3 in the black with that. After 16 rounds of this I moved the cannon to point at a stump and tried some canister. Impressive stuff. It dispersed well.

For those of you not familiar with the south site. It used to be lush green forst until I showed up. My cannon puts out big fireballs. Sorry.http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

Hayman Fire 2010?
I recovered 7 out of 16. They were banged up but intact. The hillside was a mix of dirt and hard clay. If they hit the dirt they went right in and those were the ones I recovered. The ones that hit the clay left a skid in the ground and took off. If you find them you can keep them.
