It's more a technique than how hard you slam the mag, imo. I'm spoiled (ruined) by my M&P because my Glock will do it, but more than half the time won't feed a round. Really screws me up at matches. My CZ 75B will do it as well.

Never thought I did anything special other than using extra force, but I won't dispute your theory as I haven't done it enough to be an authority on the subject.
ETA: I'd still love to get out to a match, but don't foresee any weekends off for at least the next 3 months.
Bristlecone does a USPSA match on Weds once a month (20th). That is USPSA though. I started in IDPA, which I think is probably a less intimidating sport to start in, but that's only my opinion. I wanted to become a better shooter so I'm trying to make the jump to USPSA. Realistically, anyone who's not afraid to just show up to a match in the first place, won't have an issue shooting any type of sport. One thing about that Bristlecone match is that they want you to have some sort of range safety waiver, so you may call ahead and see what they want. I had a little trouble when I went, but I showed up at the very last second and just asked to shoot.
Thanks for the info, strangely enough I have Wed/Thurs off for the next three months. I'm not the most competitive person in the world, but like you, want to be a better shooter. All of my secret spots in the hills are no longer secret, and going to a range just shooting at a paper target aren't exactly appealing for the price you pay, just need something more I suppose.
I wouldn't consider myself a competitive person, but that changed once I stopped placing in the bottom half all the time. Also, bowling pin matches are fun and a good intro due to no movement, and the adrenaline of going head to head with someone is totally different than just shooting against the clock. PM me any questions so we don't muck up the M&P thread. ;)
I also doubt auto forwarding was an intended feature, but I do know at least one high level competitive shooter who used that technique successfully. I was originally trained to slingshot the slide into battery, but I gravitated to the slide stop method for faster reloads. The M&P is perfectly suited for me in this respect, but some with smaller hands and difficulty reaching the slide stop do like the auto forward aspect.
FWIW, one of our local USPSA safety officers, and arguably one of Colorado's most respected instructors, discourages the overhand rack for new shooters because of the risks of a detonation with your fingers over the ejection port. I dislike the overhand rack because it is too easy to block the ejection port when trying to clear malfunctions. To each his own, but you really separate fact from theory when you test your skills and gear in a stressful competitive environment.
Imho, the M&P 2.0 is the best newer 9mm in it's price range on the market. I'm getting one for myself, and can't give a higher recommendation.
I did think this (and still sort of do) but last night I picked up a Canik TP9SF and I am IMPRESSED. For ~$399, you get a lot of gun. (2) Mec-Gar mags, a serpa style holster, amazing SA trigger, and warren sights. I love my glocks and always will but the game is changing.
Canik is an often mentioned brand in competitive shooting circles I believe.
I have handled the Caniks, they don't fit my hand well and the grip texture doesn't hold a candle to the 2.0. Again, my opinion only.
I’ve been carrying my 2.0 appendix in a Trex arms raptor for the past few weeks. I might have to throw some talons in mine it’s rubbing my stomach raw haha

I've got the Compact coming with nights. Might put an Apex trigger in it, but that appears to be all it needs.
That's how mine is setup. I carry appendix with a bravo company Torsion, http://www.bravoconcealment.com/prod...rsion-holsters which is sized for the 4.25" model but the compact fits it just fine.
Are you guys that have owned previous M&P models really impressed with the 2.0 trigger? Or does it still need the apex upgrade? I’m happy my M&P’s after the apex triggers, have both full size and shield. I am really considering the 2.0 compact, but after trigger upgrade and new sights.... I’m hesitant. Haven’t shot one or pulled a trigger.

For me, it's more than sufficient for carry or competition. I reviewed the M2.0 Compact recently https://youtu.be/uZ2nRyPOo18. I have several M2.0 5" FDE reviews and vids of USPSA and IDPA matches as well. No, not a CZ Shadow Custom or a 1911 trigger, but for me, excellent.
I put an APEX trigger on my M&P and really liked it, until I bought a factory Glock. Is there a way to get a decent reset on an M&P? I thought there was a Ram or something that was supposed to get a better reset feel, but I also thought I bought every part of the trigger I could.
I am really happy with the apex in my shield, it’s perfect. The one in my full size isn’t my favorite. It’s very light, hardly any “wall”, and hard to feel the reset. I’m thinking about putting some of the factory springs back in, trying some different combinations. Just haven’t been shooting it lately to mess with it.
I just put the apex aluminum enhanced trigger and safety plunger in my G26. Love this trigger now.

Don't know if this is even a competitive price compared to local or other on line places. Seems like everyone is doing decent end of year sales, again.

For the M&P M1.0 version, you can buy a Reset Assist Mechanism (RAM), but only for specific models that have the internal locking system: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmSf...Tl-d3baHfAZGSQ. This excludes .45, VTAC, and/or manual safety versions. For the M2.0, there is no internal locking system (that I've found). The Glock reset is renown for sure, and I love my Glock's, but the M&P ergonomics are (for me) far better. There is no perfect pistol out there :).
I paid $419 plus $8.95 shipping from GrabAGun, so for me it was a great price for the M2.0 Compact. Quantico Tactical has a great price on a 3-pack of mags (15 rounds) for the M2.0 Compact (http://www.quanticotactical.com/asp/...M2.0%20Compact).
I added the Trijicon HDs (of course) - they really round out what I feel is a top notch carry pistol.
And with my original M&P VTAC with the Apex upgrade, the trigger is still basically as you described. The Apex is much smoother and lighter, but still mushy and unpredictable in my opinion. Now my shield is awesome with the Apex. Really looking forward to trying the 2.0C

Pulled the pin a 2.0 compact, finally. (Thanks Noah) Dumped 300 rounds through it on Friday. Love it! It cycled everything just fine. I normally run 124 grain Double Tap for carry ammo. It don’t like that so much. Cycled fine, but point of aim, point of impact was way off with it. Any recommendations on carry ammo so I can narrow it down? Thanks!
try the 147 xtp's
https://www.hornady.com/ammunition/h...-147-gr-xtp#!/
or
https://www.luckygunner.com/9mm-147-...m-le-50-rounds
If the heavier doesn't work to your liking then go this route. I "believe" ruger and sig have the same round, branded under their name.

I'm happy with the 147's gr in the G43. While this light round performed fairly close , grouping wise.
Having had a variety of the M&Ps (down to one 5” Pro with the Apex fss and aluminum trigger) I’ve run both the 124 and 147 weight Federal HST and haven’t noticed any real differences out to 20 yards for what that’s worth.
Thanks gents. [emoji481]
The one I have shot 124gr t series and hst real good. I shot 100rd of each with no issues.
FYI - A lot of online vendors have this one sale for $399 (or less) with free shipping and it qualifies for S&W $50 MIR.
I’m still here. Just don’t post much anymore.
I sure don’t regret picking one up. Very happy with. Put the Apex flatty in it set at 5.5 lbs. Sweet!
