I had a problem where you would feel the truck "Thud" when you came onto power or when you came off of power... it was slop in the powertrain caused by failing U-joints. The thud was when it transitioned from either the enginge turning the shaft under power or the wheels turning the shaft when coasting. New U-joints solved it.

Going from Forward to Reverse made it thud quit noticeably.
