All the info is on the match website . The grass was fairly high last month and its never a good idea to bring a stubby BR /BRM length bipod . New guy's are always put on squads with experienced guy's and if you need to borrow sticks it's not an issue .
What kind of sling are the guys using? I have a pretty basic sling and don't know how well it'll work with a backpack.
You won't be carrying it far. About anything will work.
Longest walk is about 3/4s of a mile , most of the stages are about 3-400ish yards apart . As long as it carries the rifle your good .
So here a newbie question:
For those that don't have 10 mags to put 6 rounds in'em...
where and how do you store your ammo on the go?
Zip lock?
Ammo box?
Ammo bag?
Do you guys just use 1 mag stuffed with only six rounds and while moving to the next stage reload the same mag?
Or do you have an ammo box and feed a round one at a time?
This is gonna be fun.... as you can see, I'm kinda over thinking this [Coffee]
I have one 10 round mag and use it exclusively. I'll keep a fiver close for a spare. I usually just keep my ammo in a zip lock in a side pocket on my back pack.
I enjoyed it so much... I want to go do this again [Coffee]

Set up is at 1 on Sat
The 2015 season starts next Sunday. See you there. Unless you are afraid of getting beat by a girl or two...
I won't be there. My rifle is still at the smith :(.
I've accepted I will be beated by both of them . Won't make this one , gf having surgery. March will be the first match at raton I'll make this year but plan to be at each one after that.
Fun times yesterday. Thanks to Chuck/Mike and everyone that make this match happen.
What a great day for a match! Can't believe it was February. Posted my best score too.
Man, the weather was gorgeous... t-shirts most of the day... in Feb... in Raton... congrats to the winner!
Is stage 7 still sticks, or can we use a tripod now?
No tripod, but 3 legged sticks are OK [Wink]
All kidding aside, Mike explained in the morning that you can bring whatever you want to use. The caveat is, it has to be carried for the entirety of the match. You also need to setup "ON" the clock. Meaning not setup you gear, get comfy, then start your clock. Mike said you could carry a folding shooting bench if you want, but those rules apply.
Chuck or Mike may be able clarify further. But bring what you got!
The updated rules are on the match website , condensed version is you can use anything you want but you have to carry it for the whole match in a consistent manner and it is stowed and collapsed on the start signal and all set up is done on the clock . So basically use what you want but hump it all day and set it up on the clock .
Wonderful. Thanks gents! Sticks and I don't get along very well.
That sucks so bad.
Had a blast this weekend... winds were unusually mild, but still tricky. 58 was the high score - holy smokes.
This time I also went down to Raton a little earlier on Sat to help with the set up. Very interesting to stand next to the targets and look back at the firing lines. Completely different perspective, and it gives one much insight as to why the winds are so squirrely there. Many of those targets are in protected little gullies, shielded from the wind, while others are completely exposed and out in the open, hence subject to relatively more wind. One would never appreciate this if all you've seen is the narrow field of view through your 20X scope.
Thanks, as always to Mike, Chuck and the gang for such a fun match.
The magnum rifle match on Whittington proper is this Sun .
Sunday is one of those days .
Changes coming for the magnum match . New spot and more distance , stay tuned
SRM team match is this weekend , we shoot both Sat and Sun with the normal set up and sight in on Fri starting at noon .
The last Magnum Rifle Match is going to be in two weeks , 20 Sept . We will be at the new spot for the first time .
The target count is going to increase from 8 per string and 1 bonus to 10 per and 1 bonus , this will make the max round count for the match 81 rounds .
The new spot the tree line is at 2060 yards and the terrain is going to allow at least 1950 for the furthest shot now .
At this time any rifle that is legal for SRM can be shot here as well , with the disclaimer at the further distances spotting hits and misses can be difficult .
The target placement and distances will be finalized Sat before the match .
I'll post up directions later in the week to the new spot .
To get to the new spot enter the front gate at the NRAWC and go down the main road until the first left turn just before the shotgun house and the trap and skeet ranges . Go down this road past the RV storage yard and the turn toward the maintenance buildings and competitor housing . Go through the gate and there will be a left turn going up on top of a small ridge , go up the road and the firing point is up on top .
Looking forward to Magnum match. What time does sight in start?
8 ish , usually earlier , we have to do final set up on sun morning and then we shoot once that's done , usually just before 8
The new MRM COF is going to be awesome - I had the chance to scout it with Chuck and Mike at the last MRM. FFP is on a hilltop, with target array W and slightly downhill, instead of shooting uphill N at the Barrett range as we have been doing. Now all Mike needs to do is put out some bigger targets, LOL! See everyone on the 19th.
There will be some new bigger targets for the longer distances , closer won't change .
Right now the bonus target is planned to be a 1 MOA target at 1 mile .
Planning on being there. Not sure if I will shoot my 300 WM or my 338.
Promises promises
The MRM is this Sun , we will be meeting at the front gate at noon on Sat to get all the targets moved to the new spot .
Wont be there Saturday, but will be there bright and almost early Sunday.
Your never early , known you too long now to get away with that one
Almost early.
Someday I need to get myself a big boy rifle for this.
