The Firing Line

Never meant to imply you were out of line, as I said- nothing personal. It was kind of a tongue-in-cheek statement. TDYRanger and I went there last Friday to do some shootin'. We experienced two employees there who were leaning right into the asshole cage. It's actually the first time I've seen that there. At what 1pm, the entire lot was full. I asked the short guy with the Brit accent what was up, he said it was some kind of city furlough day (Comments Off Topic/Possibly Inflamitory). As we were shooting on the member's side- no wait, but supposedly an hour wait on the public side. It can and does happen everywhere, but there aren't too many places around with that stock and a range. I always go and do some shootin', take a break and shop, then finish up. I'll buy anybody here a drink anytime, even if we disagree![Beer]

Unless you're a Democrat. Then I'll have to think about it.

So I just called to see where I'm at. All the guy tells me is that the guy is there and if he gets to it he'll call me. I explain the situation to him, paid for faster shipping, told I would bed able to pick it up same day and you've had it for three.. Response is we'll get to it when we get to it.

They will NEVER see another cent from me. They act like they're the only firearms dealer around.. If I could have my item removed from them and shipped somewhere else I would. And I'd gladly wait while it happened to keep them from getting my money at all!

All these stories tells me that Bowers' needs to get an FFL ASAP.

He is, that's why I mentioned it. I don't really trust or care to deal with shipping a gun to anyone else. Plus, I know Mike prices his stuff reasonably, so I'd just buy straight from him.

Actually a private citizen can send a long gun or a handgun to any FFL - doesn't have to be for gunsmithing. The return trip is the case where gunsmithing becomes a factor. Why didn't he just send it UPS himself?

I couldn't agree more about Firing Line. I've been with Dusty Johnson for most of his visits there as well and I was completely turned off from them. I will never again set foot in that place and neither will anyone I shoot with.

Anyways, if you live in the Firestone area, I highly recommend the FFL below. He's a coworker of mine (in LE).

I over paid for my M&P 40 from The Firing Line, because I was impatient and they had it in stock. I didn't know crap about guns and asked about registration. They laughed at me, and made fun of me, but never explained anything to me.

Patrick is a great guy. He is very professional and his prices are very fair.

I deal with Randy at R&S Manufacturing, LLC. His prices are very fair and usually beats the other dealers prices in town and at the gun show. His transfers are only $20.00. I check with him first to see what he has in stock or what he can get me something for and for all my gunbroker purchases (that is where I found him). I think the folks at R&S have customer satisfaction as a priority. FWIW

Stopped by to see if they had a Rem 700 that I wanted to take a look at before putting down 1200.00 for this particular rifle. Well Bob there after I said I just wanted to look at it ignors me. And I have to get his attention very loudly and ask him if he is going to show me the gun or not. then he asks if this is going to be a "Transfer" . ask him some questions on the rifle and he plays dumb. So apparently if you are not going to spend any $$$ there or buy their rifles or handguns they don't have to provide any customer service. their price for the rifle was not out of line and if I would have received better customer service I would have bought it right then and there.

So Bob cost them a 1249.00 sale. and a 559.00 scope sale as well

I'm sorry guys but I am a regular customer and member there and do not see the poor customer service that is being reported. I would think that a -fairly-? experienced salesman should be able to read a customer ready to buy. There are always quite a few guys behind the counter, all ready and eager to make a sale. Some may not know quite as much as we think we do, but that can't really be held against a man or woman making $10 an hour with no benefits.

A buddy of mine just started working there, if anyone's interested I will pass on his name, he will take care of you without all the BS...

I'll admit I get a little overprotective when it comes to my wife, but she's put up with my crap for 17 years and I lover her more than life itself. However...

We dropped by the Firing Line to check out a Springfield EMP for my wife. I was looking for a set of grips for my Valor (no 1911 grips to be found there) and left her alone to ask questions. She inquired about the action, safety, and capacity and the guy behind the counter suggested she "read a book about guns" before buying one.

If she hadn't ripped him a new one, I would have. Those were legit questions!

Show me the safety. Is it single or double action (being it looks like a mini 1911)? What is the capacity - single or double stack?/

Perhaps those a$$hats should "read a book" on customer service!

Yea no thanks, piss poor customer service, watched the guy behind the counter flirt with some girl about nothing gun or range related for 5 minutes before being shot down then decides to come help me, by then I told him nevermind ill go somewhere else. Ill stick to CC or the shootist.

I haven't been there in quite awhile due to bizarrely hostile customer service. One guy in particular always struck me as being a couple sandwiches short of a picnic. After shooting at their range, I tried to pick up some +P ammo for my M&P .45 (Cor-bon, I think), and the guy behind the counter told me that I should check to see if it was safe to shoot the ammo in my pistol. No problem, I told him, its for a brand new M&P. He then proceeded to go on a five minute rant about how I didn't know anything about guns, and how it would serve me right if my gun blew up in my hand. By the end he was actually shouting :)

So yeah, long story short, tried to buy some ammo there, got yelled at by a psychotic employee, haven't been back since. I will say, however, that the guy with the British accent was very cool.....if I'd been able to deal with him exclusively I'd probably still be going there.

Returning to this thread to say that I am a member there, been going there pretty regular for over 10 years, and have never seen or heard anything like what is being reported.

I make it a point to stop in there when I'm on that side of town to look around. I don't get hassled by anyone, nor am I completely ignored if I am looking for assistance.

Their prices are higher than a lot of other places, but they are a business and can price their stuff anyway they want. That being said, I don't need to spend my money there if I can find what I am looking for somewhere else at a cheaper price.

I've bought a couple of guns there and I tend to peruse their consignment section a lot.

You too pal! I have seen the gamut as far as FL pricing. Some of their new current manuf guns are high retail. I have also seen and bought a screaming deal or 2 (in my opinion), with plenty in between.

one of my former professors is APD and he has no issues there... because they know he is PD.


but as far as their knowledge of gun laws and customer service... the place could vanish and I wouldn't miss it.

No, they don't know me from Adam. I've never been in there in uniform (when I was uniformed), but I tend to keep to myself, smile and say "No thanks" when they ask if I need anything. I tend to go there on Sundays and they are always busy with people and I just wander around.

I've been going to TFL for 10 + years.
The employee turnover is really high. I've dealt with some arrogant jerks and others that were pretty cool and others in between.
Richard (the guy with the British accent ) has always been very cool.
Their prices can be a little high (way better than Gander though LOL) but I have gotten a few real good deals there(mostly on used stuff). I stop in there every so often because I live close by.
Recently whenever I've stopped in there the employees have been very helpful and accomodating

NEVER enjoy going in there... but they are the closest shop that i can go fondle MSARS at, and they sometimes have a good deal on used long guns...

i do know that everytime i go to shoot handguns, they always bitch at me for doing double taps... im sure its more of a city policy, but come on, its two rounds... and, being 19, they always come to me with a condescending attitude... i know enough about firearms, thank you sir. i dont think i will ever buy anything from them.

My experience there was average. I went in with the Wife to pick out a new handgun. The guy behind the rental counter was nice. but when we went to actually buy the gun the salesman acted like we were an inconvenience in his day and was just a complete asshole. He then turn us over to a more important man, possible the manager, who treated us about the same. Every time I would ask or say something he would give me the shortest answer possible and try to act like we weren't even there.

Overall we got in, tried what we wanted and got what we wanted. The price of the gun was about 10 bucks less than other shops around town so the price is fair, just the service is rude. But in the end I don't care much about that since an hour later I am on the way home anyway. If we had needed more help or if I didn't know as much going in as I did it might have been an issue though.

The Firing Line will never get ANY of my $$$. Their customer service is always subpar and their prices are way out of control. I will drive a 100 miles out of my way if I have to and spend my money where it will go a lot further and I'll drive further if I know the people there will treat me well. When Bowers Tactical gets their FFL, that's where more of my hard earned $$$ will end up.

I was there last night - no wait for the range - no problems renting a Glock 17 and shooting the $hit with 2 or 3 of the employees

I will be getting a membership there shortly and will likely be going shooting on Sunday mornings

At least 5 trips there so far without issue

Pick up a couple of fair deals on some new, really hard to items there.
I have been treated decently there. It is all about who you are talking to. Stay away from Sneakerd while you are there, he could smooth talk the Devil into buying a blast furnace.......[LOL]

Accidentally selected this place when purcasing a gun from Buds Gun Shop, since it was listed as a "preferred FFL" i figured I would give it a try.

Called and inquired about the information they needed, there was a lot of "labored sighs" and "well I need your phone number because that way I can call you" in a sarcastic tone while listing the information he needed from me. Along with some overly loud shuffling of paper back and forth like he had something better to do I was put off. You would think that an obvious new customer calling about a transfer, they would be a little nicer to get them to come in and buy things in the showroom.

meh, if they don't want my money that bad, than I am happy to oblige them after this transaction. I'll also update with the in-person experience.
