So today in class..

I am reading a book about pre and post invasion of Iraq. The writer spent time with civilains and military, both Americans and Iraqis. A couple of things stuck out as they were mentioned several times. Gunshops thrived during Sadaams riegn. Who knew there were gunshops in Baghdad. And every civilian family he spoke with at an AK in their residence. Not so much to fight off the occupiers but to protect themselves from lawlessness brought on by the invasion.

I've found the best way is to ask questions. I get a dumb look on my face (easy for me to do) and ask the holy grail of all questions "why?"
Oh almighty all knowing all powerful teacher ... why?

Of course you may have to bite your tongue when they reply but it's been worth it to me to hear other students then chime in.

I do the same thing when asking questions. LOL.

I will definitely check out the book. I also attended LTCOL. Grossman's "Bullet Proof Mind" seminar last summer. He also talked about rising crime rates and unarmed citizens.

Some teachers are good at generating discussion, playing devil's advocate to get a good discussion going about a topic, bringing out points of views and all. I like those classes because as long as people can remain calm and explain why they believe certain things you can have a good healthy debate which is always good.


But dang, when you get a teacher who uses their positional authority to push their point of view on young minds who just sit their and gobble it up? [Rant1]

One class the teacher started their speech and the guy next too me started thumbing through the book, checking his notes, making a huge deal about it. He finally raised his hand and asked the teacher what chapter was she speaking from and if this would be on the exam. She mumbled something, cut off her speech and got back on the topic. [ROFL1]

I always spoke up in college, because I think when most people are in college, you're in that annoying "I'm smart" phase. That's probably why a lot of my teachers didn't like me, but I always did well in their classes because I had valid arguments, and I didn't argue just to argue.

But seriously you may just want to bite your tounge graduate and go on with life being a success instead of right. When they can get back at you by failing your ass. Happened to me. Card carrying member of the NRA is like spitting in my face when you say it the bad way.

Hence my suggestion to wait until the semester grades are final before making the professor look like an idiot. Intelligence is knowing what information will do the most damage to their argument, smart is knowing when it advantageous to do so. no point in setting off a claymore if you're going to be a victim of the shrapnel.
