Bear, that is exactly what I was thinking about. Stag, I love that knife set up of yours. I need to copy it. Can you get all the components at the same place? What is in that pouch next to the fire stick? Compass?

ESEE Junglas knife (outstanding sheath system)-ESEE firekit(button compass inside cap & cb/jelly packed inside with going gear striker attached)-pouch has altoid tin with fishing gear, band aids, and a few meds-Gerber camp saw ranger banded on sheath. I loved buying my gear before job loss !! [Beer]
As soon as I get the green light, I'll post an awesome video my friend made for the ESEE competition.
Here's my answer to that-a Spyderco Dyad:

That big hole in combination with those serrations makes it look like a Cayman.
That's a pretty good answer. My "survival" knife is a Sog Seal pup elite, and although not a very large blade, it has plenty of straight edge for my needs. I haven't owned too many knives that don't have some seration to them. Guess it's just a personal preference thing for most of us.
Okay ESEE and R.A.T. fans, check out this video my friend from another forum submitted for the ESEE Major Survival Contest. The idea is to demonstrate as many survival skills as possible using ESEE knives. Here is the video, and here is his official submission with some more explanation. I'm pretty impressed by the quality of the video.

that video is awesome! I have been lusting after a model 6 as of late......
would like to know who is on the soundtrack- good tune.
His last video didn't say, but this one says it is Beck.
Awesome video. I need to watch some more of the entries. Great web site for folks looking for knife info and survival stuff. I'm usually on there or here lately.Great no BS warranty on their knives. I know-ESEE kool aid ! [Beer]
Must be the only one to carry a "Swiss Army" knife, the Ranger. As well as a old beat up Benchmade. Both have about 10' of 550 paracord attached, and a flint/steelattached to the Swiss Army.
I still have the old KA-BAR Marine knife my pa gave me when I was 10.
I have Swiss Army,Benchmade, and KA-BAR's. All good knives. Ya just can't have enough guns and knives. [Beer]
I've only appreciated knives from afar until very recently. Until I've actually tried to use a knife to do something, I just had no idea what good qualities of a knife actually were. I'm thankful for this thread. It has shown me that all those crappy display case knives I bought as a tourist as a kid are utter junk. I have one $19 Cold Steel Tanto now that is more useful than all those others put together, and even that knife is crap compared to the stuff in this thread.
I've always just carried my leatherman. Never had much of a need for a Good Knife. A couple years ago I found a Spyderco on the side of the road near the house here. Looks like it was just lost off a car bumper or something, looks new.
I started carrying it and using it a few weeks back, and it's great to have a high quality knife that is easy access and sharp.
But I had an operator malfunction with it and needless to say it's sharp.

DOH!
At least it sewed your finger up. Hell of a knife.
I used to shapen knives back in my Unit.
All because some one borrowed my knife to slice up an apple.
Iwarned him it was SHARP,,he had 3 fingers looking like yours there gnihcraes.
And the damn apple was ruined.
K-bar for a big knife. Though I want an ESEE or WETSU's new knife. I've had/own many but my big paws don't like small handles.
EDC is a beat to shit kershaw tanto half serrated that I've carried for over 5 years. When this one finally goes I've got it's twin NIB.
I also carry gerber 600 as often as possible. No swiss army knives anymore since i swore off non locker knifes after winding up with a handful of gnihcraes like fingers.
I was always a folder guy until about a year ago when I discovered all the smaller fixed blades. An old timer told me that "a folder is a broken fixed blade".
Made sense when I thought about it. I still have a ton of folders though especially Spyderco's. [Beer]
Check out this sheath Stag. I hope they make a smaller version.

Yeah been looking at that one for awhile-they actually used to make those sheaths for ESEE until they went their own ways. Esee has some new products that are coming out in the next few weeks. One of them being a knife pack-

I saw your Xmas list about a Gerber LMF II-I have one-good robust knife but edge retention and sharpening is an issue I have with it. [Beer]
The J. Holmes for the really well hung knife. Specs as above on the Footlong just another inch of length without the pills or the exercises.[ROFL1][ROFL1][ROFL1]

Reviving an old portion of this thread. Dicks is now stocking the Bear Grylls knife. Actually looks quite nice in person. If my Seal Pup didn't already fill that niche, i'd be picking it up, but like someone else already said, you can never have too many knives or guns.
There have been some less than good reviews on blade forums on the above knife. Especially on the handle breaking apart. [Coffee]
I have a leather handled ka-bar that seems indestructible... for the better part of 18 years :P
Lately though I've been taking a Cold Steel Busman Bowie when I go camping... for about 25 bucks it was well worth it, stays decently sharp and since it was so cheap I don't feel bad about throwing/digging/chopping/splitting/hammering with it... Also would make a decent spear if the need came up.
I took a fairly good sized aspen tree down - well, chopped it up - when a wind storm knocked it down in my back yard with one of cold steels cheep-o kukries... Worst part about that blade is that the grip is murder on your hands, did a fun paracord katana wrap on it and it's pretty nice now... It also came with a terribly off-center sharpening job but was able to fix that with a file while bored in a couple of hours.
I can never pick just one.
Knives I have known and loved...or hated.

WOW! Nice collection.
talk about a knofe whore! That is a sweet selection of cutlery you have.
What is the name of the style of the knives in that last picture? I remember my dad having some old knife just like those ones in the picture. It even had that little chunk out of the bottom of the blade just above the handle. What are those for?
Oh man nice collection. Those are freaking awesome
Anyone dabble with the Glock Knives? Seem to be cheap enough.
It's a Kukri.
That is a heck of a collection. [HiFive]
Thanks Chris.
What website should I visit that has a list of types of steel/carbon steel and their properties?
