Not sure why you posted that Jim, it's out of date and it's not from an official source.

Out of date story, mentions fire ban until X day. Read the story and see the info at bottom. I believe quoting usually is from an official source
Question asked about about fire ban, there are shooters in NOCO who would like to know when they can shoot on public land. Not limited to you el paso guys
South site was busy this morning.[Beer]
Were you the one running the drills shouting "BLUE! TRIANGLE! SQUARE!"?? Whoever that was, it sounded like fun. I wanted to go introduce myself, but we kind of ran out of time.
It shoots alright. We got a diamondback DB9. I can shoot it with no issues, but when she shoots it, it FTFs almost every round. I watched her shoot almost 50rds like this and I can't figure out why... very frustrating for her to say the least. I want to say that she is limp wristing or just not holding it tight enough, but her hands had red imprints of the grips and from where I was standing, I couldn't see any obvious problems. I'm not sure what the problem is. She has incredibly small hands, so maybe she just needs a smaller caliber, but I'm not sure. The best thing happened though: She isn't very confident with her new gun (because she couldn't get it to feed reliably!), but she did finally admit that she really liked shooting my AR, and when I halfway jokingly suggested that she would have to get her own AR to shoot, she was very open to the idea.. maybe even a little excited. Forgive my ignorance...but what is the south site? I am in the Springs too...and always looking for a safe place to shoot.
Anyone know of any backcountry areas that are allowing fire?
Nice find! (and thanks for picking up other people's 'trash')
Where I was shooting, there was only a little bit of .22lr brass, but nothing reloadable and no trash. I always try to pick up as much brass as I can, even though I don't have a reloading setup yet. I keep brass in 1 gallon plastic gatorade bottles and I have 2 gallons of .223/5.56 brass, 1.5 gallon of 6.8 brass, and 1 gallon of 9mm brass. Someday I'll get a reloading station...
i've been watching the the usda.gov website to see if they will ever lift the shooting ban for pawnee. i called 970-295-6600 as provided on the website but the number is disconnected? i was hoping to to make it up there on sunday. any of you guys know a different number to call?
i know i need to sac up and join a range too, i just put this together and have no where to shoot it.http://i.imgur.com/i00Tr.jpg
any word on squaw pass , south site , pine junction or pike?
so i finally was able to reach somebody at the pawnee office today and the lady took my e-mail adress and said she would let me know when the ban was rescinded, so i will update this if i hear anything soon.
On my home today spotted a few "No Shooting, violators will be prosecuted" signs here in Clear Creek Co.
just received an email from dianna moore at the forest service that the shooting ban has been lifted. just thought i would spread the word.
I hope you are right, but they havent changed it on the forest website yet.
the e-mail i received about an hour ago:
Hi folks! Good news – the shooting ban has been rescinded, effective August 2, 2012, on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and the PAWNEE NATIONAL GRASSLAND! Target shooting will be allowed beginning tomorrow. Just remember – everyone who’s been wanting to target shoot may be out there all at the same time. Use caution, be sure to let folks know where you are so they are not shooting toward you, and be sure you are not shooting their way. Also, Just a reminder: use caution if you are using steel jacket/steel core ammunition, as those will still cause sparks and could cause a fire. No exploding targets or tracer rounds, as those are not allowed to be used on public land at all.
Also, we will have researchers out on the grassland from time to time, so scope the areas out to be sure you’re not shooting the research and range folks! We appreciate that!
Have a safe and fun weekend!

That sounds like good news indeed!
Man, I just got back from chambers lake this afternoon. They had a ton of fire ban and no shooting signs up still. We did have a lot if rain up there, so I didn't understand the need for the ban. If you are going up there, watch out for mudslides
I'm impressed and surprised. only 7 days since i posted it might be longer.
Now i can shoot with those folks who do not belong to a range, yeah

- Fire Restrictions Lifted Date(s): Aug 2, 2012
Stage I Fire Restrictions and related restrictions on discharging firearms have been lifted on the on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland (ARP). It is important to remember that conditions can change quickly. Please continue to be careful with every fire, and make sure campfires are completely out before your leave them. Some Counties may still have restrictions place that affect campfires, shooting and other activities on the National Forests System lands know before you go.
Before target shooting please visit www.fs.usda.gov/goto/arp/targetshooting for information on rules, regulations, target restrictions and local closures.
So shooting in arapahoe national forest is allowed.....cool.
Thanks for the update
Joe
