Been just a few years since we last went to Yellowstone....used to go there all the time when we lived out there...
Wapiti campground is where we usually camp... last campground close to the park you could tent it, bears are a concern from that point and closer to the park east entrance

Carlin was a blessing for folks who can appreciate him.
I had this crazy line come out a few minutes ago...
You might need sweetener from time to time, but I have no Equal.
:)
so much for 8-13 mph winds today. NWS missed that by a ton. 30 mph winds made for a very tough day in the field. 3 birds between 4 hunters. dogs struggled to find scent all afternoon. ugh. I came up empty handed.

The local VFW post was having an Easter party.

Those are cute little beasts! I’ve heard ducks actually have some personality and make fun yard pets. My only experience is shooting at them, and ever so rarely, actually hitting one. What’s the plan with these guys?
Well, I've got a few weeks to build them a coop. Then just let them live in the yard I guess. We've been back and forth on whether to get chickens or not. I got a call today and just decided to go ahead and go for it. I know there are enough people on here with experience if I need, not to mention the people I know in person, and YouTube. I'm sure I'll post occasional updates. The dog and cats (well one of the cats) are pretty interested so far.
oh lol. I thought you went bird hunting. but they're so cute!
Very cool. I think I’d rather have ducks than chickens too. I hope you’ll post some updates as they settle in.
I was getting duck eggs from a member here for a while and they are VERY thick. I never did figure out how to crack them well. heh. Taste great though. The ducks are 7 days old, and the chicks are 3-4 days old. The duck's wings are about the size of one of my toes. It looks very weird since the ducks are like three times a large as the chicks. One of the ducks fell over on its back and couldn't roll over. I watched it for a minute before turning it over. I couldn't figure out why it couldn't get up until I saw the wings.
So back to steep roofs...

That shit is ridiculous.
Bird Day #1 Update: However much of a mess you think a duck will make, it will make a bigger one.
But just imagine the per-dozen price you can charge folks for "free range, organic duck eggs".
People on the Nextdoor website were asking like $8 a dozen of duck eggs.
It's been a while since I've been kicked off, but I'm sure they did.
I threw a spider into the cage and a duck ate it right up. Glad they have the right idea right away. I can't wait to let them out in the yard.
Yeah, they said they start laying in about 6 months.
I've had both ducks and chickens at some point up in Buie.
They are super awesome at insect and weed control. In my experience at least, it does suck if one or more roosters get to pecking on a hen.. that can get messy. And momma duck was really adaptive at finding a way out of the pen area if given an opportunity.
The eggs were great though.
Duck eggs frequently have more than one yolk I noticed.
No, actually eating double....several times.
Perhaps I had a magic duck, and didn't know it at the time.
Chilling in West Yellowstone, kids and wife just went to bed, poured a nice tall Makers Mark, and cracking open a book. Life is good.
Is it a book about surviving bear attacks? Is it My Side of the Mountain?
Glad to hear it, GG.
I told my neighbor I was gonna put a toll gate on her driveway, but it's cool cause it would only be 50 cents.
She told me to not bend over on my back porch cause I'd get a BB on the butt.
Fun with some win also.
My neighbor is convinced that the ducks will be more pets than anything and will really latch into my daughter. It's been one and half days and we're already pretty sure that the ducks are going to be dicks and hate us. Oh well. At least I think everything is named by now.
See if she can teach the ducks to fly. Someone told me those store bought ducks can’t fly and I told him that if I had ducks I would teach them to fly.
I think Drakes will fly, but others won't. I honestly haven't looked into it.
Edit: I knew Drake was a male duck, but thought it also referred to a species, it doesn't.
I identified the chicks as Rhode Island Reds, and confirmed when I called the lady. She says the ducks are Pekin and might have some runner in them. She doesn't clip the wings because they get heavy enough to not be able to fly.
