This is what the most severe of severe granule loss looks like. This is not damage from something. This is product failure. The South slope on the left compared to the North slope on the right. They are both subject to the same condition, but the South and West slopes get the most sun and will always fail faster. If you can imagine, this wasn't the most fun to walk.

The fiberglass layer was actually in pretty decent shape considering. All the "shiny" that you are seeing is the fiberglass layer. You can even see it along the edges of the shingles in the first picture on the "good" side, which is still in terrible condition.

I'll bet that was scary, Irving. Like walking on mini ball bearings, I'm sure.
What was the reason you were there to inspect it for, if not a damage claim? Home for sale, or ?
All my stuff is damage claim, sometimes initiated by people trying to sell the house and the buyers inspector saying there is hail damage (that is almost never the case). This was a wind claim. There was wind damage, but you could hardly tell given the conditions of the shingles.
Good morning.
Beautiful day to spray the weeds

Wanted to go for a Spring drive since I got the stock 3000gt running good, but wife went to work on a Saturday (when she put her 2 week notice in a week ago) and stuck with kid at home [facepalm]
The drive is waiting for you, and it will still be there when you get the opportunity to enjoy it.
:)
Stuving ever think about getting your FAA commercial Drone rating and just flying a drone up there?
Round 1.
....is absolutely the best way to get started btw.
Lol unfortunately I suspect 3 rounds till knock out but we will see. There's something funky going on with the soil here, lost a pine last year in early spring and now after fertilizing this year seems all I can grow is dandelions and that spreading crap along with vine weed per the norm.
Dont know why this locked but please feel free to resume all Ho Duties
Wtf opened it back up and there's not 25 post yet??? You he's need some redbull.......it gives you wings.

I thought about a drone last year, and might still buy one just to mess around, however, for what I do, they aren't that helpful. The roof in those pictures is the perfect example in that I was looking at wind damage. With wind, if a shingle isn't gone, it has to be either creased or have had a nail tear through; neither of which a drone would have helped with. You can see dresses on most shingles, but thermal cracking looks the same. There will be shingles that are cracked clean in half from thermal cracking, but are still adhered to the shingle below, so you know it's not from wind. With creasing on the pictures roof, you'd have to feel a break in the bitumen layer in the bottom side. All things that need physical manipulation. Same with hail in that nail pops look the same. Drones are great for overview pictures, and I think even measurements, but they'll never replace a physical inspection.
After initially having an allergic reaction to an antibiotic, I’m now 8 days in to a 10 day regimen of a different antibiotic. I feel like shit. Oddly enough, they put some people on this same antibiotic for YEARS at a time to “treat” acne... I can’t imagine living every day feeling like this
Sorry to hear Mark, hope you get through the crude!
Stuving I figured but just have heard different Insurance companies starting to look into the use of drones.
Thinking about putting up my DJI 3 Pro, Daddy needs a G19 more right now. But it is a blast to fly.......
Cinnabon ?
I don't understand how folks can eat that shit, but then again, I often eat frozen boxes of shit for dinner or lunch..........no judgement from me brother.
It was nice to get grocery store stuff done today instead of on Sundays like it has been for the last several months.
Insurance is using drones for catastrophe level stuff like we had last year. If a property is on the "zone" and is real, steep, or otherwise dangerous, a done is sufficient. Those are scenarios where of the is any damage, it is pretty much a total loss and doesn't need closer inspection.
Watched a punk flashlight a camper parked across the street tonight.....twice in a half hour. Guess which house he lives in.
Yeah, I'm watching mother fucker.
If it's not on video then it's a He said, they said. besides use of any force to stop a theft of personal items, especially in a vehicle on the street gets you hammered by the legal system.
Now if you happened to be coming home at night and used a well placed stream of some form of pepper spray. against someone who came at you.

Then dialed 911 due to being woke up by screams outside the house.
Not to belabor the point about the drone, but I remembered that I actually have some photos that perfectly illustrate what I was talking about.
What a drone would see

What I would see

Depends on the pilot, I know I could get down about 3-4" above that and pan.
What the big companies are doing is actually pretty idiot proof to the point that they almost don't even need a pilot. They give the starting location, then the drone flies a pre-determined square around the property, taking pictures at certain angles. That's what one company is doing anyway. With 4k video and camera, a drone could very easily zoom in enough, with enough resolution to see individual granules from what I understand. Really the only thing that they can't do is shingle manipulation. I think the tech exists for drones to even measure roofs as well. If Eagle View can do it from satellite images, I don't see why a drone couldn't. Along the same lines, it seems like it'd be pretty easy to overlay stuff directly onto video or photos as well. For example you draw a 10x10 test square when looking for hail. If the drone can make measurements, I don't see why a program couldn't overlay the 10x10 square right onto the image (like they do with stuff on the field when you watch football. Then all the photos can stay consistent with what insurance companies require for inspection reports. Could even circle hail impacts and stuff. I think you could make a lot of money if you could write a program like that. A lot of companies are spending millions of dollars to do the same thing though. The industry is still young and you might be able to break into the market running inspections on a contract basis. Some companies are sending their adjusters to become FAA certified or whatever, but a company that does just that and is ready to go for the insurance carriers would be pretty attractive to them I would think. It'd be just like my ladder assist job, but even easier. Just show up, fly around and take pictures, email the report, see you at the next address.
I've actually started studying for the FAA Suas rating but haven't tested yet. The problem with writing the program is I have no coding ability at all. There's a shit load of apps out there for it but I'll I've used is DJI go and Co-pilot (let's you give a camera view to another device). Also one of the downfalls of the Phantom is no zoom, I think the Inspire does zoom though but at a base of $2500+ I haven't gotten to play with one. As far as mapping goes there are a lot of programs out there and some add on hardware (about 3k) to map farms for drainage, over saturation, dry areas and good crop.
If the wind isn't kicking when I get home this evening I'll take some close up shots of my roof to give you an idea how close you can get providing the elements are in the pilots favor.
