Finally putting the Pi in a case. Sitting bare on the desk isn't a great option.

I killed my most recent set of Keen's, so new work boots. Hopefully these last longer than 13 months (not a knock on the Keens, I'm just hard on boots).

Whoops, wrong thread.
Jer,
I got the exact same unit after thanksgiving. OUTSTANDING SMOKER/GRILL. I am not a noob to pellet cookers as I have had a Traeger for several years. Hands down, the GMG is a superior unit. Some tips for you. The right side is most likely going to be hotter than the left. A lot hotter. It's a common problem they are working on and have a fix, but it depends on what drip pans and heat shield you got with your unit. If it is the stainless steel box style heat shield and stainless drip pans, then you have the newer style and it is causing uneven heat. Mine is about 100 degrees hotter on the right. The fix is an even newer style heat shield box. It has larger slots cut in in so you can slide it to the right a bit. Here is best thing, Email GMG if you are having a problem with uneven heat if you got the older style heat shield box. They will send you the newer style!!!! Their customer service is mind blowing. Have a problem, just call and they will work things out over the phone. Leave them a message, they call back asap. Emails are answered pronto as well!
If you are new to pellet grills, I highly suggest the brand of pellets called Cookingpellets.com They are available on amazon for the best price. They have the best flavor, best heat, and lowest ash. Also 100% hardwoods. Their 100% hickory is awesome.
Here is the best tip I can give you if you don't have one yet. GET THE THERMAL BLANKET AND GET ONE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!! It is an absolute must in the cold temps or you will be chewing through pellets faster than a fat kid through cake.!! It makes a huge difference. Check their website for a dealer near you. If you can't find one, there is a dealer in Lakewood that stocks them and their price is better than online.
Don't hesitate to PM me if you have any questions. I use mine about every night and have since I got it.
I run one of these works well. Without a name brand price tag. That and a few foil wrapped bricks in the bottom / sides for winter smokin.

I used that same cyherself blanket on my traeger. Worked good. Held it on with magnets. Now I prefer the ones from the manufacturer. Work a bit better for heat retention and much easier to lift the lid and close again. Also does not blow off in the wind. However, the welding one is 1/4 the price.
Bought into a raffle for a whopping $24 and ended up winning this guy. 100 tickets and I bought 2 lol.

Nice! I neve win, unlike my wife.
Yeah, they are popping up everywhere now. I won one on a site myself. It's definitely a win for dealers/sellers. They are getting full retail for the firearms and you may win one for cheap if your lucky. Some of the new sites I have seen recently (local Colorado) are really making a killing I bet. They are getting way over retail for the firearms/parts if you add up the cost of the "raffle" tickets.
I wonder how long this will last before they get shut down? Not sure about Colorado law but there are some states that have specific rules on "raffles".
.
You're right kwando, raffle isn't the proper term. It's not really a raffle but a number game with prizes.
I wore out two pairs of Keens. One year each. Blown stitching, Worn out soles, blown out heels...name it.
Toward the end of the first pair, I was doing some PT for lower back issues. The therapist looks at my shoes and asks how old they were (literally falling apart). I said nine months. She pointed at hers and said mine are 10 years old (they still look new). Went to the shop where I bought them. Talked to the lady I bought them from. Said I didn't want a refund or any money, just wanted her to know. Showed her the shoes and she didn't believe me.
All that said, I don't get Ariat boot styling. Guess I'm from a different boot era.
Had mine almost a year and love it. The only mod. I've done is taping over the "low pellet" sensor. What a PITA.
Luckily, you are close to hethe watershed.
Cowboy boots sure are looking nice now a days.
My Grandfather was a rancher. All his boots were custom made at L. White Bootmaker. I remember eight pair of boots in his closet, Sunday-go-to-meeting to stomp in the cow $heit. All were the same cut, style and color.
I'd like to stop in and see if they still had his boot patterns.
That's the place she got it from actually. Great bunch of guys and I was amazed at how much they had in the way of pellets & accessories.
Do you have the blue sensor or the yellow one? I think I read some had problems with the yellow one and switched to the blue one and all their issues were fixed. Then again, if you're just talking about the constant annoying beeping it makes when it senses low pellets then that's just the way it's supposed to work. lol
I've read that about the right side and it looks like I got the newer stainless box but not the newest with the four notches in the bottom to allow it to be offset. Not sure if I'll just try to run it as is, notch that box myself or contact GMG for the newest versions. I was hoping to do a trial run on a Boston Butt tomorrow and get a little seasoning and a feel for the smoker before the Super Bowl the following weekend. If I have to add new parts it will likely 1) not even be here in time and 2) I won't be able to do a trial beforehand. Whatevs. I'll probably just wait until after the Super Bowl to handle all of that. I've heard nothing but good things about the GMG customer service so I'm very happy with my new acquisition.
I have also heard good things about CookingPellets.com and you can even get them from Amazon which we have a Prime account. I already got the cover and the thermal blanket. The authorized dealer where I got my smoker from (The Water Shed) has a very wide selection of accessories and pellets but they were out of stock on the thermal blankets. I shopped around a bit and remembered that the Ace Hardware on Harmony carried GMG smokers and items. I called and not only did they have the thermal blankets in stock but they had one that one of the employees accidentally cut during unboxing. He said it was about a $10-$15 discount and he couldn't remember which. I was interested in seeing it even with that discount amount. He said that they repaired it with super glue he had the same smoker and the cut wouldn't bother him at all. When I arrived I was happy to see that 1) the repair job was done pretty well and looked like it would hold long-term and 2) it was on the back panel so even if I wanted to put a strip of duct tape over to further protect the repair from the elements you wouldn't even be able to see it if I put it against the house where my current smoker sits. Here's the kicker: they discounted it to $45! Needless to say I'm pretty stoked about that acquisition.
I'm stoked to get this puppy burned in and seasoned. Last night I threw a Papa Murphy's thin crust Tuscan Chicken & Sausage pizza on the bottom rack and had an epiphone... I could throw that sucker on the GMG and get a nice smokey note to it too! There's several things like that, burgers, pork chops, etc. that I wasn't able to do with my electric smoker that I'm excited to try out on this bad boy. Hell, I may sell our six-burner NG grill before this summer is over once I see what all the GMG is capable of first-hand.
w00t!
How come you couldn't do a pizza in an electric? Does your new one double as a grill as well? I'm new to smokers.
So..What's your impression of Dave? the owner of the WS. He's clearly not a SJW, entitlement kind of guy.
Just wait, pizza is easy to do. Once you get the hang of it, cook times, how long to smoke before cooking etc, you'll really go to town.
Our smoker saw more use last year than the stove did. I do a mesquite, apple, hickory blend, using 4 cups of Hickory/apple to 1 cup mesquite that's fantastic (of course it is) .Nice mellow flavor without that over powering bitter taste mesquite can give.
For the adventurous, which seems like everyone here. Start dry aging your steaks before smoking. A good 4-5 day prep really kicks it up a notch.
If the tape comes off that blanket. Throw some duct tape, the foil kind, on it.
