Good morning folks!
Word of the day: Pickle
Like peewee's playhouse
I can go to work @ an actual job today & add moolah to the stash or go shoot at steel from behind a vtac wall & other delightful props before the weather ruins the range for another week.... gee, what ever should I do?
I've been working. Feels great!
That's the pickle. I enjoy working too.
I would go to the range given the option, I am stuck working though.
Where the f* is the ignore button for an entire thread?!?!
F* the 'like' button, I want this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That's just wrong.
Anyone have the joy of peeling a vinyl wrap off of a Chevy van?
#2legit2quit
Nope, never.
Heat gun?
Vicks Vapor Rub?
Good ole fashion fingernails?
I love my time off just as much as anyone, but after so many months of it, it's nice to actually make money sometimes.
I used to help peel the factory plastic off of brand new cars when I was a lot tech, does that count? What's that called again, PDI? Pre-delivery Inspection? Something like that.
Howdy....my puter was inadvertently thrown into update when someone clicked yes on the prompt....it was done for the night.
Heat gun for sure
Vinyl off
Plastic razor blades
Well ventilated area
Good times will be had
Heat guns are okay, but the cords and the time wasted messing with them sucks. Use a butane torch instead. 3M adhesive remover is one of the best products on the planet.
The best way to make sure you have all the glue off the paint, is to rub your open palm on the ground/floor and then gently rub your hand on the area you removed product from.
If you missed adhesive, you will find very quickly using this method.
A more advanced way to remove adhesive remains is to have a standard razor blade appropriately dulled. Each razor blade that you unwrap the little cardboard thing from, has two sides. One that grabs and catches on everything, and one that doesn't. Determine which side doesn't, and rub it back and forth on some scrap steel at slightly different angels in a circular motion for at least 30 minutes. It really sucks when ya break a seasoned blade and have to make a new one.
The blade I use for glue removal could be pushed down the hood of a car in the dealership showroom, and it won't leave a scratch.
My electrician calls today asking if id buy his 32 roadster for $5K . MMMMMmmmmmmmmm
Buy the roadster for $5k or put money in to shop as budgeted?
Pic?
Tomorrow if he still has it. He's an impulse buy / sell guy, kind of like me. If caller #1 isn't interested NOW! he goes down the phone tree. Sometimes an item is still available, other times gone before caller #3 has picked up the phone . It had potential and (IIRC) a 351 drive train, or not.
Product for the price asked does have me wondering about the true value of the roadster. Is it just the chassis and the body ready to begin full restoration?
Thanks OBC!
I'm using my monokote heat gun because I dont want to burn through it and Chevy paint jobs blow! Its not too bad when its above 30? out, today helped a lot. Only have the passenger side left then I have to go back and get rid on the adhesive spots which are all grey on a white van so that make it easy to spot. Between the vinyl off and the adhesive remover it's been easy but still a PIA.
Gk that's not even a question, 5k for a 32 even if it's a kit is a crazy smoking deal.
If I had a shop, I'd consider working on that old tow truck. That'd be cool to cruise around, even though I don't even like old cars.
Hey Stuving that's a pretty special signature you got thier buddy!
Hey brother....I have removed a metric shit ton of decals and striping and adhesive. There are some techniques I'd be happy to share with you if you are facing this type of project on any kind of frequent basis.
Oldies I want
40's f100 oak bed, red exterior with tan interior
64.5 pony (wife's car)
68 gt500kr
79 150 highboy
40/50's Willys jeep, of course old military.
The butane torch really is the way to go, btw.
I blew a suits mind one time when I fired up the torch and put it to the car.....I could see the WTF balloon over his head when I was doing it. lol.
Brother I love you (no homo) and that's a badass offer but I'm doing this just to earn a little cash and save the company (startup) some cash. Couldn't throw down the 1-1.k for it to be "professionally" removed. Since we won't be wrapping it with the new company stuff I figure I'd rather save the cash and put it in my pocket and or some upgrades equipment. This will be the only one I do, it's not bad just tedious.
