Super Bowl Thread

America the Beautiful is not the national anthem, and I thought the commercial was leftist crap. We are a melting pot of cultures etc. but the vast majority of the country speaks English. The commercial had some underpinnings that I could do without, especially during the epitome of American Football. ...as so many of the non-US folks I have interacted of feel the need to tell me that football is played with a round ball.

As for the best commercial of the night, Oikos yogurt with the guys from Full House.

Had a customer come in today from the dealer. Leaking oil from a repair that the dealer had messed up. The dealer also messed up the diagnosis. And left their drive shaft loose where it came off in traffic in Dallas Tx.

I said to my shop manager "they got Bronco'ed by the dealer..."

I realize it's not the National Anthem but I was trying to make a comparison. If you tell me an analog to America the Beautiful for Mexico I will amend my statement if necessary but the point still remains. I'm tired of acquiescing to foreigners who clearly don't care enough about our country to learn our native language. I spent a couple weeks in Mexico and spoke more Spanish than immigrants I have seen with my own eyes/ears that have lived her decades. You really have to go out of your way to not absorb some of a language of a nation you live in.

Don't you think they care about the country if they care enough to learn the song? Hell, there are plenty of kids born in English speaking households that don't know the words to it.

Just as much as they do if they hang a US flag that is Mexican colors instead of American Flag colors. They cared enough to hang a flag, right?

Why does it even bother you this much? America as it is today is a far cry from the idealistic version of America from 60 years ago, anyway.

Off topic so I'm not taking the bait.

So, in other words, "Coca-Cola releases hippy-dippy feelgood commercial with stupid song ."

It's not like they've done this before.

A friend of mine, immigrant from Portugal who speaks perfect grammatical English but with a thick accent, and refuses to be known as a hyphenated American, hated that ad.

We thought the ad was offensive to America as a whole. It almost felt like they were condoning not speaking English in America. Basically, leftist trash. It's an American song, with Colorado ties, about America. If they wanted to do it with multiple nationalities, great, as our country is made up of multiple nationalities, but do so in English. It should be encouraged to speak English. I should not have to press 1 for English. That's where all this is coming from, and going. Heck the other day, before we fired our helper, he had a habit of trying to talk to another employee in Mexican. I piped up and shouted, en ingles por favor! They both looked at me with a silly look. I find it offensive to have coworkers talking beside me in another language, personally.
