I was, but then I didn't. Since then I've had a few different people offer me the use of their welders, including some neighbors. So I can learn for way cheaper using their equipment than running out and buying one.
I haven't looked up the T-case gears yet. I thought I'd just ask here and save myself the time.

I did have some success today getting one of the nerf bars bracketed and tacked. I also have to admit I somehow effed up the rear mating, I can save it, but damn it!!!
I couldn't finish welding it up because the bottle is damn near empty.

I'm more interested in knowing if changing gears in a transfer case is the same level of difficulty as changing the gears on a diff. I did a little searching on that last night but it was late by the time I looked and I fell asleep.
Well, there are a lot of t case varieties. I imagine a chain driven limited choice case is easier than a multiple option gear only case.
I don't know.
As easy as it is to completely eff up a two gear diff, I would also think it's train wreck city to jump right into multiple gear t cases.

Yeah, I'm looking it up and while it doesn't sound exactly the same as setting up gears in a diff, it certainly doesn't sound like it's on the easy side. My T-case is a two speed with gears, no chain drive.
Bleh.
Drilling 1/4 plate six times and 1/4 frame in an awkward position six times does completely blow monkey ass. OH!...that damn jack....I butt jacked that POS with a few pinchy vice grips. The X frame couldn't move with those things in place....ha ha!

I was gonna say... experimenting with some automotive applications is great. Powertrain stuff can be very expensive just for the parts, and if ya do it wrong you could cause much more damage than just having someone with the knowledge and proper tools ahead of time do it for you. In a t case, some rebuild shops can't get it right...and sometimes differentials need case spreaders just to get the third member into the housing for installation.Quote:

Well that's why I was trying to look it up. I can do stuff, but even easy stuff takes me forever, so if it is something complicated where I'll need two experts to hold my hand the entire time, that's usually the point where I start shying away.
