Some rock solid (thanks to you), Some good, and some still need a lot of work/gunsmith, like my AK47.
I need to find some cheaper 6mm creedmoor for practice too.

Oh, & while I said 556, it's my understanding that I should start out with 9mm. Get a feel for it before moving onto more advanced/difficult loads.
Not sure that applies though as I started out shooting tactical rifle & seemed to advance rather quickly. I also have my own workshop & fly model rockets to 30k ft. so very little about tooling, building & assembling things to go boom & zoom is foriegn to me.
Im thinking I'll catch on pretty quick on assembly & realize that development is an entirely different animal.
You could start wherever, but straight walled pistol rounds are super easy.
Left @ 7 this a.m. for a 2 hr drive to pick up a mill. Another 2 hrs back. But wait........turns out the same road back was closed (WB) for weekend repaving. So. that meant i had to tack on another 50 miles out of the way to get back north.
Meanwhile it was a balmy 98 @ 10 this morning trying to get out of phoenix. . Nothing like a 300 mile rt .
Gives one time to ponder who the hell i'm going to get to help unload a 900 ish lb mill. Yeah science, hoist and buying lunch.
The fun part starts in a few days when we have to get it off the floor and on to the bench .
Luckily the seller had 3 of his friends on site to help load the damn thing.
How exciting GK. : )
I like having new toys.
I didn't check links but we have knocked this around before. Look for the knock offs. I picked up 3 approx a year ago at one of the "farm" stores. Murdocks or Bomgaars I think. Were $12/pc less than any other price I could find and $20 less than retail auto parts store.
They have sat out in sun most of the time and show half the weather fading/decomp that typical Nanny State cans.
Will never buy another type fuel can.
The knock off steel, or square race cans?
Do you have a particular kind of press in mind? Seems like you are deep into precision, which some people say you can't load on an auto press. Guys like Tim_K have experienced otherwise.
Yup. Tim K is one of the folks I've hoped to chat with specific to reloading. Again, it's been a busy summer for everyone.
With regard to equipment, I wouldn't know. Everyone is usually trying to sell something so I research products a bit differently.
I started reloading on 45ACP and 308 at the same time. Can say the straight walled are easier, but not so much to make it so you couldn?t start on 223. Plus you shoot so much more 223 it seems and would see a better ?return on investment? anyway.
Start off reloading on a single stage press and work on attention to details & not getting distracted, all it takes is......Squirrel !!!!! ....... where was I,.... Oh yeah, all it takes is a moments distraction, and you will have a KABOOM from missing a double charge or squib(s) in you barrel. Even an over length case could do your firearm in and possibly injure you or another.
And as Irving mentioned, start with straight walled pistol calibers 9mm or 45 ACP are a little more forgiving on case length so trimming is easier.
Beef fajitas for dinner and burgers and dogs for lunches this week....woot.
The entirety of tomorrow is going to suck for me, but....I'll have a burger and a dog for lunch.
It's the little things.
I like how cool it is tonight.
Comparatively, it's about bloody time.
*never store diesel fuel in steel cans*
...public service announcement #27..... 9-8-19....22:19 MST
It's always cool here, CN.
;)
.308. I looked into it and it's known that it's too thin. Said they would thread a different pattern and adapters are easy to come by, but it was going to be almost twice as much. Common with Axis, even in .223 I guess.
Chick, I would go straight to loading what you shoot most. Sounds like you already have a background in tooling or machining, so it shouldn't be an issue for you.
I'll trade you an RCBS single press for those gas cans. I have a set of neck sizing dies in .223 if you're interested. I don't research things much, but somehow came to the conclusion that I didn't want them. If you come to a different conclusion, you can have them. Do you have time to meet up tomorrow?
Oh, and no pressure to trade, if you'd rather have $20 for cans, I can do that just as well.
Got very little sleep last night. Headed to the Vet for 1st appointment. Yay, puppy. [Coffee]
Glad our GSD is finally starting to mature. Getting to a year old has been much more challenging with her than the heeler.
If she's loading for the AR she needs full length sizing dies, not a neck one. BUT if she does do the deal i have a set of FL 223 dies, somewhere.
Or did you get them with the 550 ?
The rcbs for gas cans is a nice offer and one worth while. great way to get started reloading.
I appreciate the trade offer & the context for it but for right now I don't think I want to collect anything more until I have the knowledge & space to put it to use. Thank you though.
What time are you thinking Irving?
I'm not available after 1600 today.
