I carry an EDC in the form of my Maxpedition Versipack. Basically same items as everyone else: multitool, first aid, tourniquet, isreali bandage, every days stuff like kleenex, and even some very basic shelter/multiuse items like drum liners, a shemague. I even have a single-use particulate face mask with eye shield in case of fire, etc. Ohh and definately several ways to start a fire/purify water. I also typically carry my Baofeng UV-5R for monitoring of the airwaves.
Along with my EDC, all my cars have semi-identical get home bags, plus 72 hours of food, a little more extensive shelter items, extra wool clothes/cotton socks. A few extra rounds for the carry gun. Some containers. All in an assault-pack like you would get issued in the army. The shelter items (wool blanket, mylarized tarp, drum liners, and foam mat for ground cover are rolled up and affixed under the backpack with dog collars. It is a little heavy, I think I have to downsize a little bit or get lighter gear.
Consider something like those cheap draw string backpacks. They take up little room and weight. Cost very little and very versitile.
Game bag. Laundry sack. Water bladder w a trash bag. General goody sack. Carrying extras if you have to abandon a car. Splitting some load or gear. Etc
This reminds me that I need to go through mine again for summer. I have 40 miles and almost 4,000 feet of elevation between my office and my home so I am set up with three days of dehydrated food as well as a small mess kit for cooking. I have some water to start but I keep water purification tablets in my pack, and several water sources along the way. I also keep a pair of hiking boots in my car as well as a thermal hunting suit for the winter (rain gear for the summer). I keep a tarp, rope, and paracord for shelter as well as a small hatchet. I have glow sticks, knives, flash lights, head lamps, and fire starting materials. I have 100rds of 9mm and 10rds of slug, 10rds 00 as well as 10rds of field loads for small game. My current pack doesn't accommodate my clothes so I have my pack, seasonal clothes bag, and soft shotgun case in my trunk.
One thing people forget is that emergencies happen in degrees. It doesn't go from everything's honkey dorey to mad max in 5 minutes. So while technology might be offline, you can still use cash. Keep a couple hundred bucks stashed in your bag, that'll get you a hotel room when credit card verification is down. Or food from a restaurant, etc. It'll take a while of things being really bad before people with normal resources start realizing they want silver.

I keep a back country/get home bag in my work vehicle. I also have a small camelback in my truck with a few things and everything else that I would need is already in the truck it just needs put in or strapped to the pack.
The wife has a full BOB in here car with a couple of smaller packs to break things down to essentials for a long walk.
Can you post a link to a pic or a pic to that bag? A bag that can be broken down is very practical in my thoughts.Quote:
