.22-250 for Pdoggies?

Its hard to beat a 22-250, unless your using a 22-250 Ackley improved. The A.I. goes step for step with the swift and brass last a long time. I have one that Kevin Weaver built and its awesome out to 500, if the wind isn't blowing to hard. You said you wanted a long range round and since prairie dogs tend to live where the wind blows I say go bigger. The .243 or a 6.5 creedmoor are my personal favorites for that task. I have been using my Dpms 6.5 creed to shoot dogs out to 700 yards. Yes a 140gr. Bullet is a little big for dogs but when the wind picks up it drifts less.

I run 22lr for stalking inside of a 100yds. 223 or 6x45 out to 250-300 yds. Then the death ray from 250-500yds. 22-250 52gr amax behind 36gr varget on a Federal GM Match primer. ragged hole groups at a bill opens up to an inch at 300yds. Minute of VarmintKong at 500yds.
Now there's a lot of talk on 6mm and I won't argue it. I just have a hard time seeing the red mist on my 6's because they're 2 far out...My preferred rifle is my 300WM, 208gr amax at ranges of 25yds....you might get lucky to find a vertebrae. I have 2 250's, 1 243, 1 223 and 2 6x45's. Guess which ones do the most of the work...the 250's.

No matter what you get, you must get an accurate shooting gun and know your ballistics. Great glass is a must. Most of my optics run more than the gun.

I just recently switched to a .204 Ruger for coyotes and would imagine that this caliber would work equally as well if not better on pdogs.

Someone correct me if i am wrong but you can not use a .243/6mm or above during big game season on small game.

You are correct, unless you have an unfilled big game license.

Not if you're on your own private property, or acting as an agent of the owner, performing pest control.

22-250 is good p-dog medicine. Hot days are hard on barrel life though.
