I shouldn't be surprised - but I am, that someone has the preposterous notion that a pocket knife actually presents a valid threat to the safety and security of a community enough to sponsor a bill to ban them completely.
Just 50 years ago you would have been hard pressed to find a man who didn't carry a pocket knife in their pants pocket and we had considerably less violent crime back then.
Yes, this "civilized world" we live in is growing increasingly violent.
Our Founding Fathers, in their "Declaration of Independence" to their oppressive government of the time, identified 3 God-given ""unalienable" Rights: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. I believe that we still hold these items essential in our lives.
What if the increase in violence has something to do with the fact that the more our lives are controlled by government, the less people believe they have Liberty or that they have the ability to pursue Happiness. Maybe the two items have nothing to do with one another. Then again, we do have the most oppressive government since we answered to a King and just look a the number of prescriptions for anti-depressants being written every day.
Instead of asserting more control, perhaps our government could let us live our lives ourselves so that we can experience our own failures and successes. Maybe then no one would feel that an all-out ban on pocket knives is necessary.
