Seems like more and more people are allergic to something.. unlike myself whom is allergic to nothing... sure maybe 1 or two days in the spring some hayfever might kick my ass but it just gives me a stuffy nose and red eyes.. for literally not more then one or 2 days .. and not even every year... just randomly.. and growing up I was allergic to one dog.. just the one.. somethign about one of my friends dogs left me stuffed up and red eyed. but only that one dog and not even the breed ( been around others of the same.. no issues)


but back to the topic ... Why are more and more folks allergic ? ESP the whole peanut thing. I remember hearing about it in the past.. but the last 10-15 years seems like everyone has it .

Well, being someone who has a life threatening peanut allergy... along with a whole slew of other food allergies... I can speak to this a little bit.

One theory about peanut allergies is that anyone who has a parent that is allergic to anything (be it penicilin, bee stings, or something else) is pre-disposed to developing food allergies...
Now, have you ever heard that a child under the age of three should not be given shellfish? A kid who is pre-disposed to having allergies should also not be exposed to peanuts before the age of 3. With society being so "fast paced" any more, everyone is just throwing something quick together for their children... Including PB&Js. Because of earlier exposure and more people being allergic to things to begin with, more and more people are becoming allergic to peanuts (or gluten or milk or...)

Of course there are some schools of thought that say that you should start kids at a younger age of exposing them to the allergens to prevent allergies... But who knows. There hasn't been ENOUGH research done in order to figure it all out. I grew into my allergies, so I was able to eat peanuts/peanut butter/chik-fil-a/etc. all the way up until my senior year of hs/freshman year of college. I had finally found a great alternative to Reeses pb cups when I discovered my milk allergy (not intolerance, but allergy.) Life (or at least the eating part of it) pretty much sucks for me.

There is a theory that the real reason for "peanut butter" allergy is a fungus that produces aflatoxin. Maybe some kids are actually dying from aflatoxin shock?

I was going to just slam you for that comment, but figured to just stand up for the gluten free people instead because you are uninformed. my wife is gluten intolerant. she felt so bad they were actually looking for cancer in her. people who are gluten intolerant have severe intestinal issues similar to diverticulitis or crone's disease. she was absolutely miserable. avoiding gluten has given her her life back.

I thank God everyday for an awesome Mom that taught all of her children in the home. I may not be as " socially adept" as the cool kids but astonishingly enough I dont really care. I have extended family and friends that have teenagers and children in the PES ( public education system) and they all seem..... Well to put it nicely mildy retarded. They have little in the way of common sense, morals, ethics, or a sense of direction in theyre lives.

It was a bit of an inside joke that apparently rankled a few feathers. My wife interviewed someone for their department a few weeks back and was told by the candidate that if they were hired, nobody in the building would be allowed to wear deodorant or perfume as they were "scent-intolerant" and chemically sensitive.

I'm aware that peanut butter, gluten, lactose, deodorant, et al cause problems for some people, I am simply waiting for next years batch of diseases as I live in a town where food intolerances are more than a disease, -they are full-blown fads. I'll go sit in the corner now :(
