Veteran's Day response from a couple of veterans
I also posted this to my Facebook account so I could share it with as many of you as possible. I wrote these words from my heart to let you know how I really feel.
Those of you who know me know that I am a 20 year retired Air Force veteran. My wife is also a veteran (6 years).
Whether a service-member serves just one term or an entire career, they and their families all make tremendous sacrifices; sadly, some much more than others. Military service is not for everyone; nor should it be.
While an occasional military discount is appreciated, it is never expected. We do not serve for special treatment, we serve based off of our sense of duty, honor and pride in our nation and our communities. We serve to provide security and protection to those we love. And while we don't expect special privileges, we long for two simple words: "Thank you". Those two words tell us that you recognize our sacrifices. They tell us you appreciate us. Most importantly, they tell us you have not forgotten us. This is why Veterans Day is so important to us.
For those of you who have and those who are going to offer your thanks to us, you humble us and we'd like you to know how much we appreciate you. It was for you that we serve/served.
My wife & I would also like to express our gratitude to those who came before us, those who served with us, and those who will come after us. Your service makes our lives possible. We salute you, one and all.
May God bless you all and keep you safe.
