Want to make it interesting, try the 22lr pistols out to 100 yards. Then push those rimfires for all they are worth in a rifle.
It is exciting when you can see the bullet impact in a reactive target (balloon?) with a rainbow trajectory at over 400 yards with a 22lr rifle.
That and you need to pack a sack lunch for the flight time. I prefer a KFC chicken bucket with sides. Take a friend and make it a competition and a lunch.
I just picked up a Ruger 22/45 lite and 10/22 takedown, excited for when the weather warms and I can get them both out. It's been awhile since I shot a .22. Looking forward to taking my girls out also (7 & 9). The 10/22 will be a tactical project. Will get photos up when complete.
I shot more .22LR in the past 2 years than my entire life combined. Realized the benefits of it as a lower cost trainer, reading wind, getting my fundamentals back, etc. I like shooting anything with a cartridge and a trigger.
This is exactly why they make trainers in .22lr! Same specs, size, weight, etc. but in a smaller caliber which is MORE influenced by the environment. Makes for some excellent training!!Quote:

With what I miss in .22 recoil and noise I make up for in shear volume of ammo downrange.
As was mentioned, bring out the revolvers in .22lr and keep increasing target distance! That adds some challenge...

I love the Ruger 10/22 because all of the options available, especially the aftermarket stocks. That being said, I do admit that if I don't shoot them for a while my attention wanders.
