This happened to me a couple of years ago; I was hit in the back of my leg with a fragment off a steel target about the size of a 22lr bullet. It went into the fatty tissue deep enough that it required surgery to remove. I was told the surgery was optional. Fortunately, it backed out after a few months; I am not sure that would happen again or not. There was a little blood when I was hit but not a lot. It just stung a little, but not a lot of pain. It was really uncomfortable sitting because the the bullet fragment was located right where my leg was at the end of a chair.
I have had a couple fragments enter my body. They fester and work there way out.
