It's a political tactic that doesn't belong to one side or the other. Pick an issue that you know a particular base will not give on and you guarantee their vote (if they vote).

If you really want to walk into the bizarro world of politics in this country, look up the origination of 'liberal' and 'conservative' in US politics. John Locke was known as a 'liberal' in his time. 'Liberal' standing for 'liberty'. Yet gazillions of people who now believe themselves to be, or label themselves 'conservative', frequently label their political counterparts as 'liberal' as if it is some sort of a put-down Take our incredibly confused, but linguistically gifted Ronin for example. 200ish years ago, he would have been sucking the crown's junk. At least by definition.

Its unfortunate that so many view politics in our country as a sport with only 2 teams in the league.

I do believe that the current elections in our state are going to be a big success for the Republican party. I certainly hope so at least. Not because I agree with them 100% on every issue, but because I hope it will send a very strong message that 2A rights aren't a left or a right issue. It's a non-issue because it isn't open to debate or legislation aside from an repeal of an untouchable constitutional amendment. Get 2A and a handful of other issues off the table and we can get back to some real and meaningful political discourse in this country... which I believe is healthy and very much American.

Seriously. Nationwide, democrats are using female reproduction issues (control/abortion) as the sole argument to vote for them. To me that's very demeaning to women.

This is a result of the political left's deftness with and strategic manipulation of defining the terms and context of political debate.

Unfortunately, part of their marketing strategy is to adopt a new and positive-sounding label for their policies (liberal, progressive, New Deal, etc) when it's discovered that the same old things they've been advocating for years don't work.

Instead of changing their policies, they simply rebrand.

Unfortunately, the conservative movement in this country completely fails to grasp the fact that there is power in selling the same old thing with a new label, and they're suddenly put into a defensive position, having to refight the same old battle because the context and branding have been changed in the public sphere.

As such, while it's a cute historical fact to point out that terms like "liberal" where once indicative of someone who's more libertarian in outlook, is ultimately pointless, because that particular semantic ship sailed so long ago, it did so using sails.

FiveThirtyEight had built a pretty decent reputation doing exactly that, among other things.

They also make their methodology quite transparent.

Whenever i see a libertarian leaning person start carping on the definition of "liberal" (in that it used to mean basically libertarian) I assume that person is a neophyte libertarian that thinks they're clever and have discovered something new.

Dropping off the wife's and mine today.

Wife mailed her's in a couple of days ago. Mine was AWOL w/me planning on voting in person until late last night when I was finally able to locate it. I will fill it out shortly and drop it off in person on my way to Crossfit.

(I couldn't let my fans down by not finding a way to work Crossfit into a political discussion. lol)

I occasionally have to explain the pre-evolution definition of liberalism when I describe myself as a classical liberal. Sometimes I get some really dumb looks. [facepalm]

The republican % of vote went down almost a point. Democratic % when down by .1. Unaffiliated % dropped by .4.

That doesn't math. Who made the gains? It still has to add up to 100%, right?
