As I understand it, he offed himself because he was about to be sentenced to years in prison despite insisting on his innocence throughout the process. Rather than subject himself to the dishonor of the sentencing, he chose to off himself before things were 'final" -- yeah, doesn't make a lot of sense to me either but I don't know what mental state I'd be in after months of the BS he was subjected to. After his suicide, the witnesses against him admitted they had perjured themselves to get lighter sentences for their own misconduct.

All I know is that after watching Rod Blagojevich run a circuit on day time talk shows trying to sell his innocence, I gained a lot more respect for Mr. Dwyer's decision.
