Centurylink outages

Wow Grant_H. I have 10 down and 2 up from Comcast. Mine's like dial-up compared to yours. To be fair, this is all I'm willing to pay for. I've been in this house with this service plan since last August and Comcast has been very reliable. I run my business line on a VoIP on this service and except for problems with the VoIP box, even the phone works reliably with my slow internet service. I'm kinda a cheap SOB, so I'm content with this speed because it only costs me $30/month.

Before fiber was an option, I had Comcast with an owned modem and never had any problems. They provide a good connection if you don't have to use their POS modems.

My fiber is $50/month as a "charter member", but even if you didn't get in on the charter program it is $100/month for the first year, then $60/month from then on. Not bad for ridiculous internet.

Maybe that's why I've never really had any problems with Comcast... I've always used my own modem. Never seemed like a good vale to rent something for $10/month when it can be purchased for $100.

When I first signed up with Comcast, they brought out some PoS Thomson cable modem that had horrible throughput. I think I'm on my third cable modem for the years I've been on Comcast, but I'm still way ahead of what I would have paid for a poor performing rental.

The Centurylink modems are junk as well. I picked up my own and it's way more reliable. But, I had problems with their service once and had to call and talk to somebody. When the lady found out that I wasn't using "their" modem she immediately wanted to blame my equipment without even attempting to troubleshoot.

This will happen with Comcast, but I only ever had to call when I got my modem, and then once when I found out someone had cut a fiber line feeding most of Northern CO. Never had to have them "troubleshoot" anything.

The last cable modem I bought, I didn't even have to call Comcast. Was able to do it via web page. Service outages are rare.

After the hail storm, my Comcast is being extremely slow tonight. Must be from people sending pictures of hail to each other. My phone is faster on 4G than on my home wifi right now. :(

Net outages suck - esp when your phones are also VOIP and you live in a black hole for cell coverage.
