Registering a non functional vehicle that needs an emmisions test. What kind of a pain will that be?

So there is another option.. you can bypass emissions I think if you've already spent over $700 to fix a failed emissions..

Otherwise.. let it lapse.. park it so the expired tags can't be seen.. HOA and such love to tow for expired tags.. or rather their contracted tow company that cruises the block will with their license plate scanners.

I don't think Bill of Sale holds any weight anymore.

Saw it in person when the better half registered a motorcycle several years ago. The purchase was made from a very motivated seller (about 60% of fair market value, clean title, legal sale), with a BoS.
Registration did not reflect purchase price but an entirely different value. I'll have to see if we still have that registration receipt.

Yep. I had same thing happen. Bought a car that was a mess. Paid way less than book value. I had to pay based on value they assigned. They said they got tired of under valued BOSs. Next car they couldn't tell if it was a 4 that was changed to a 9. Made me track down seller with a statement of fact form. Now how was I to benefit from inflating the value to a number that makes more sense?

You cant have a vehicle in sight from public property without current tags. That means in your driveway or your back yard if they can look over your fence without trespassing. At least in aurora, i know from experience.

This is true. They go off of their "book" value now no matter what you paid. Not sure if the gifting thing works, but the $1 sale does not.

There is some amount of repair money you have to spend a some "certified repair shop" before you can get a emissions waiver. If it would pass but has some other problem I don't know what they do. I would bet there is some sort of low income program for this, not saying you need it. I have a couple beater trucks just cause, and had to rush last year to get one smogged.
