Not surprisingly, Scott Carpenter Park in Boulder still has a rocket.
Yeah, my elementary school had a thing they called the "boat" which was basically a number of telephone poles set in the ground in a kind of diverging cone, with a couple of platforms set about 6-8 feet off the ground with a bunch of potentially maiming swings and such, along with a crows nest about 15 feet up, reached by a rope ladder. That shit would never fly today. They also had 4 ten foot sections of about 4 foot diameter concrete sewer pipe, arranged in a rough semicircle and painted to look like train cars. Found this park at 14th and Knox. It used to be the hood. It is a fantastic park. Worth the drive. lots of potentially dangerous things. Maybe the tide is turning?
