Yeah the main problem I have with laying down poison or anything like that is that we have 4 dogs. 2 of them LOVE to chase and eat spiders and other bugs. Thankfully we haven't found a LOT of widows, but I'm absolutely sure they're under the house, and are coming through the cracks at some point. Luckily, it's just been 3 so far.

Use the Diamataceous Earth then Alex. It is safe for your bigger critters, you can actually sprinkle it on the dogs as a natural flea killer/preventative. Most animals can ingest a spider and at the worst just feel pukey.

Yesterday I went to use the restroom, and as I opened the toilet seat, a spider jumped out and hung down to the floor. I brushed him away and sat down. After sitting there a while, I started looking around for it, and didn't see it anywhere. As a result of a total fluke, I happened to look down, and noticed a small piece of lint on the butt of my gun. On closer inspection, I saw that it was the spider. I brushed him away again and lost track of him again. The end.

That's only the first time a spider has been on my person without me totally freaking out.

Ok great thanks BPT. I used to be around DE all the time when I worked at a pool, but those were huge 50 lb bags we used to pour into the filter (IIRC) to aid filtration. Or maybe we put it directly into the pool.... Can't remember. Anyway, I'll have to go check some out.

So, what you're saying is that a spider, possibly a gang member, jumped you in the bathroom, and tried to wrest your weapon from you, but you successfully thwarted the attack, and the spider fled the scene?
