Who works at IKEA? Coloradans. I happen to like IKEA's products, I've only owned one- an entertainment center, but that's because it had to be shipped from a store in CA. I'd shop at the CO IKEA, they have great prices on some cool stuff and the money (partially) goes to the people that work there. I'm helping our local economy. Who cares where the stuff is made, I can't talk on that "Buy American" thing because my car was imported from Germany, my motorcycle from Japan, and probably 60% of all the stuff in my house was manufactured outside this country. The whole buy American thing is BS. Yes I love and support my country, but the food I eat comes from CO, the money I spend on most of the services and products I buy goes back to workers here in CO, and all this talk of "you're not a real American if you don't buy American" is just hogwash.

in a perfect country where local businesses, production and labor were protected from cheap labor abroad by tariffs, we could all buy American.
we had to make nice with China.
NAFTA
fair trade this that and the other...
all equated to screwing the American production community right out of a job.

Meh. I'll give it a month or so for all the crowds to die down. Some of their stuff looks interesting.

Byte, I agree, but some would make me out to be "evil" because I don't try very hard to make sure every little thing I buy is American. I would love to see our production go up and tariffs go into place making it harder for imported goods, but the problem is, we all want cheap stuff and the best way to go about that is "Made In China"... it's just the way us lazy Americans are now. I'd love to see it changed though, don't get me wrong.

If we all have job that pay slave wages..... how will we even afford to buy cheap stuff too. That is our current trend unless we change it.

Cabela's put out a HUGE number of catalogs too. Quality catalogs at that.

Yep. Free trade could turn us all into serfs. We could get a lot of jobs back here is we were willing to accept living standards of the 3rd world. Life's good for the wealthy who own everything in those countries. Not so hot for everybody else.

All real wealth creation is based on manufacture.... period. Adam Smith Wealth of Nations.

A stick is only worth a little bit. But carve it into an axe handle and you can sell it for 10 times the cost of raw materials or use that handle instead to build a house worth way more.

Importing a premade ax handle allows for the benefit of that wealth creation to stay over seas.

You may think that you can go and find a new job on the micro level on the economy. But on the macro level your are chasing a diminishing pool of worthwhile (Read more than 3rd world wage level) wages. Its cancer capitalism..... Its not sustaining the body (Country) long term, but rather hollowing it out to a shell that will eventually die.
