simunitions =/= a paintball gun.

and the "extensive modifications" needed to shoot bullets can be done in moments by anyone that can field strip the firearm.

if the live uppers/parts were stored with the guns (and why wouldn't they be?) then the thieves got a killer take.

I think that you'll also have to change the recoil spring. But, you are right, if you can field strip it, you can make it go w/real ammo.

If I were the RSO, I would be certain that no "live" firearms were unsecured during training exercises in the building, thus the components required for live ammo would probably be barred from the facility, and duty weapons would have to be placed in lockers prior to entering the range portion of the building. It sounds like they did a reasonable job of securing the simunition weapons(a number of locked doors/gates), but I have to question why they were left there with no alarms, and no one on site. Would it really have been that hard to load them in a van and take them back to the station?
