The reality is that a lot of bad practices work just fine ... until the tolerances stack the wrong way. That's the way it is in the 5.56mm vs .223 Remington situation.
A. On the outside the 223 and 5.56 are the same. The brass can be the also be the same, depends on the brass manufacturer or lot number and manufacturer of brass. The chambers (throat area) are different. The loaded ammo is also different. The 5.56 spec is much higher than 223.Quote:

5.56 and 223 are not loaded to different specs. the pressure is measure in different ways in different places, but it ends up the same.

I had a Savage 110E chambered in .223 that I shot both threw. The 5.56 would blow holes in the primers. Only shot manufactured ammo in it.
