Yea, she wanted his free money too. Greed at it's finest.

I noticed that and was pretty disappointing that the judge let her emotions taint her court room ruling. The girl could have had a legitimate case against that guy. Here is how. If she and that idiot got a house together and he agreed to pay half the rent. What happens when he does not. Perhaps the girl did not have the money to cover the mooch. She then gets thrown out and the landlord sues her for back rent. She then sues the guy to get the money that he was supposed to use for rent. So she may not be as worthless as he is. We will never know because the judge lost her head.
Dude, the judge asked if she paid rent. She said "No". End of case. If there were extenuating circumstances for that answer, then they would've been filed in the brief and the judge would've let her explain that. Obvisouly there was no excuse. The judge is briefed before the trial starts. The judge did not lose her head. She was sick of the morass and dismissed the case. Plantiff and Defendant are both useless moochers of society.
I love Judge Judy. Someone should shoot those two.
Listen to what I am saying here. Yes she did not pay rent. The judge never asked why? If that is because the guy was supposed to pay half or all and she is now being sued by the landlord then there is a case for her to take against him so that she can then use that money to pay the landlord the settlement she owes. Like I said the Judge lost her head and dropped the ball. Or she could just be a worthless turd too I don't know. Just playin devils advocated.
I heard what you said friend. Please read what I wrote again. All the details are filed in the brief. Once the Plaintiff answered "no" and did not have any excuse as per the filed brief, there was no reason for the judge to ask "why". No reason to continue the case. There is no "why" to answer. (outside of being lazy or her using that money for something else, etc which none is covered under the law) You can find the whole episode online that will help fill in some of your other blanks and the contingencies of the case for you as well. Hope that helped.
IF there WAS an excuse that she did not put in the brief... sorry, she can retry in another case as long as it fits certain criteria etc... which I'm not sure small claims, civil court will actually allow. Gotta read the paper work you fill out. Ignorance is no excuse.
I hear what you are saying, but still disagree. If the plaintiff had said, "Your honor, I was only able to pay my half of the rent for the month of X, Y & Z" That would have been different. It is only now that the landlord is coming after her, that she sues him... She was content to pay and felt she owed nothing until after the fact. I do not readily agree with the Judge's ruling, but can see her disgust in what the "system" has brought her.
Well I might have a lot to learn about courts. I just look at TV courts as clown court. So who knows if there is even a brief.
And yes it did help. Not that she matters, but I try to learn anytime I can and hopefully never need to apply such lessons in life.
She paid no rent, and continued to live there for several months, now she is trying to recover money from her deadbeat roommate that she isn't actually out, so she can cover her own deadbeat ass.
