How does resale value factor in for people who don't plan on selling anything?
I actually know an answer to this, just trying to make a point.

Consider many dealers are having 0% financing.
Also on the fuel economy: I thought that it's been well debunked that taking the gate off or doing other things to the bed helps. The tailgate creates a bubble of stable air in the bed that helps aerodynamics in a counterintuitive way. The best way is the way the manufacturer designed it. Although maybe a full bed cover to make it more SUV like may help.
Take a look at the Top Gear episode where they take on the HiLux (euro name for the Tacoma)

They all but drop a nuke on it, and it keeps on going. Years later they still keep it in their show.
I bought a Frontier last week. I did own an Xttera for the last 8 years as we have children. So far I love and I look forward to using it for range and hunting trips. I have the crew cab with the off road package. Interior is also nice with leather seats , navigation, rear camera etc. I looked at drove Chevys , Fords, Dodges and Toyotas. I feel I got more bank for the buck with this truck. I did check the V8 but none of them would fit in my garage but I also wanted a better gas mileage. I am sure I will get a good 8 years out of this Nissan too. This is the one I got http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bLZd9pI79nc
Also has some good potential storage places for carbines and gear. Three people can sit in the backseat with no problem.
As far as the question of why not a full size compared to a mid-size, for me personally it would be because I'd like to use the truck for off-roading on the weekends, and would just like a bed to make Home Depot trips easier. If off-roading/camping wasn't as big of a draw, then certainly full size over mid-size given the fuel efficiency issue.
I agree, which is why I decided on either the tacoma or frontier. After careful consideration, the Frontier won out. Just bought this today.

My Duramax gets 18.4.
call Hudson Autosource in Silverthorne see what they have for ya.
Screw Nissan,,, wannbee truck.
Probably not, just another foreign auto Hater.
The OP, wants a smaller truck that he can maneuver around some back country in, I'm also going to assume the OP would prefer to not beat the crap out of it on the trails. The OP's criteria is very similar to what mine was when looking for a truck. With all that said, I'll challenge anyone suggesting a full size, to follow me up some trails, without sustaining ANY damage to their trucks. I have nothing against full size trucks, but they don't always have their place, in fact for some they can be a hindrance.
Don't like Nissan. and Chevy, GMC makes a smaller truck as well.
And you guys that like foreign trucks have a problem, so why be on the AR fourum?

Define American. Sure the corporate offices may be here but between tax shelters and whatever crooked shit is pulled at the corporate levels how much does that really help our economy?
Toyota's corporate offices may not be here but the truck I bought was built right here in San Antonio Texas where they're providing thousands of jobs for Americans. Same thing for our Kia Optima.
So, you see, in my eyes I DID buy American as I'm supporting REAL American families instead of a faceless corporation that would sell me into slavery to the Mexican Drug Cartel if it meant a $5USD profit.
All that aside, I bought the best value for my money. Period. IMO years of blindly 'Buying American' is what has fueled our rabid race to the bottom since there was zero motivation to innovate. Meanwhile every other country HAD to make a better product for less money to compete and now look.... government bailouts to keep a struggling company afloat when we should have let them fail as reward for decades of mediocrity so that another newer company with a better way to do things could have had their opportunity to shine and show American innovation. Instead backroom deals and stealing billions from the tax payer has kept us right where we are on the world stage. Bravo.
I always go on a Gun Forum to ask what Truck to buy.
It's fun too watch you guys like going to the circus without leaving home.
