Mine has been illuminated for years, dealer can't clear it, they just said that everything checks out. I just went through the emissions check and no one said anything and the truck passed with flying colors.

Honey Badger, I feel your frustration. Not to put words in your mouth, but I have been in your shoes and what upset me the most was how seemingly arbitrary the whole thing was. If I broke the law (changing lanes without signaling) then write me a ticket for that. If not, or if the officer wasn't sure, well then apologize for the mistake and let me go on about my day. Yes, I get the system is all about generating money, but maybe it's time for us to collectively ask for a new system.

I could see getting your cherry popped on a speeding ticket. BUT CRACKED WINDSHIELD [ROFL2] Wait till you get one of those I noticed you were not wearing a seat belt by the CSP . It's the admit you were speeding without them saying you were speeding, traps.
You noticed i wasn't wearing a seat belt? How could you have seen that when i passed you doing 89 oopsssss...........................
This is not the first time I've ever been pulled over... but it is the first time i've been pulled over without a legitimate reason. I'm sure it won't be the last time... I will be pissed though if I get pulled over for the cracked windshield again. We are about to drive to Michigan and don't have time to replace it before then.
There are so many more important laws to enforce and serious criminals to apprehend. I usually back law enforcement, but this was a waste of taxpayer money. Shame on that Dougco deputy.
I just found this thread while searching for something else and I thought an update was due: I got the windshield replaced yesterday. Yes, 5 April, 2016. [LOL] It was only $245.35 here in CA, and that includes stupid CA taxes and a $6 "Safe Driving California" fee (I'll just leave that one alone. [Shake]). Windshield pricing in Colorado is definitely a racket.
What I was actually looking for was the political stance of Safelite - I had remembered somebody posting that Safelite was anti-gun, but searching only pulled up one of my own posts declaring that "Safelite is very anti-gun".
It's 2 years later. You never mentioned Make/Model/Year in the thread (or did I miss it somewhere?). The volume of production and availability has a lot to do with price. If you need a Chevy/GMC/Cadillac Truck windshield in CO, it'll likely cost you $150 or less with installation. If you have a vehicle with limited production and/or a number of sensors or heating in the windshield, it'll cost ya'.
Just in case you were actually curious, it is a 2014 Xterra, which has the same windshield as all Xterras going back more than a decade. No fancy windshield heaters or anything. I guess there could have been a shortage at that time. [Dunno]
I realize it is a year and a half later, but I do believe that there is something a little suspect about El Paso county putting down gravel on the roads in winter instead of salt, chemicals, or even just sand (like most of the Midwest does).
That's Colorado in general that "sands" its roads with gravel. Why bother screening the stuff when the motorists have to deal with it? [fail]
The Xterra is not a high volume vehicle. The Numbers Behind The Nissan Xterra’s Demise
Quote:
...69,714 sales over a four-year period between 2011 and 2014...
Just to throw out a relative number, GM sold 741,588 Chevy/GMC trucks in 2014 alone. That doesn't include the truck based SUVs.
The higher volume of manufacture tends to reduce the cost of manufacturing.
Who knows, maybe 2014 was a bad year for Xterra windshield production. Maybe they're only made every other year or something? [Dunno]
I am on grace period on one of my vehicle.
2nd year having this vehicle, and I need to cough up $$$$ for renewal.
April 1st my wife remembered that her car registration (aka tax) was due in February, so all of March was the grace period. $40 fine fore being a day late. Son of a...
I'm hesitant to put my new tags on the plates when the weather is super snowy or cold. Thought I had one more day before I was out of the grace. I had the stickers, just hadn't put them on.
Parking meter downtown. Bam. $75 ticket. F(&*CK
Time on the ticket was about 1 minute after I had left the car, dude sniped me, cuz I saw him walk by when I was parking the car. He came back just for that ticket. Dick.
I realized last year that I went a whole year without renewing the plates on one of my vehicles. Plates were due when I was going through shoulder surgery and got lost in the mix. Drove 1500 miles to Washington State and back with those expired plates and never was stopped. I was shocked when we put it all together and realized what had happened.
Many years ago in Texas, I would not renew and just wait till I got pulled over. When you showed up in court with new registration, they slapped you with a $10 fine for court costs. The bonus was that the DMV did not back-charge you for the months you were expired - just gave you new month and year stickers. I'd go anywhere from 3 to 9 months for free.
They caught me once at the DMV because you have to sign a statement that you have not driven the vehicle while it was expired. I signed the form and then realized I'd left my proof of insurance in my truck. I went out to get it and the DMV lady watched me through the front window. When I got back, she asked if that was the vehicle I was registering and then tore up my statement and back-charged me - cost of being stupid.
Later, they got smart and back-charged to your last registration expiration no-matter-what.
