Supervised my 8 yr old daughter as she loaded up her first 100 rounds of 55gr for her new AR. We're going shooting this weekend.
Deprimed/sized, trimmed about 750 .223 cases.
completed runs of 38 special / 357 mag starting 9mm 147g
Shot up some 44 loads for testing, got more lead ready to cast and sorted brass. Cleaning the 44 brass to load some up again.
Realized my recent order of .308 brass was short. Brass bombers is sending me more out +1 on a good company.
Loaded up some 44 spc. I am using the special brass for plinking rounds and the mags for hotter loads. Tested some medium loads with 200gr LRNFP and some Gold dot HP and some 258 gr cast SWC's out to 100yds at Pawnee in the wind today. Still getting used to the 44's, the 45 ACP and 45 gap are in the safe and probably won't see day light for a long time.
I still need some H110 to load some nice mag loads.
loaded up some 72 grain Barnes Varminators with 39.8 grains of IMR 4895 for my .243. they are shooting right at 1 moa in my stevens model 200. and they are prety devastating to the prairie dogs to.[cigar]
Cleaned it up a little bit.
Ran off a handful of a couple different loads of 147gr 9mm. Need to find some range time before I can do much more.
Broke my 1050. Not just a little but a lot.
You know metal fatigue. Bolts will shear in halve it happens
Wow that's a little crazy. How long have you had it / how many rounds before you kaboomed it?
About 6 months 20k to 39k
*20to30k
Wow. Seems a little premature for breakage aye?
Tried drilling holes and installing base pads on my Colt 1911 mags.
The bitch is the things are stainless steel and a cobalt bit would barely cut the hole, as it was I snapped a titanium bit and a tool steel 4-40 tap...just another day in paradise, now I know why I only do these occasionally, what a PITA stainless steel is...
Got 3 of 4 holes drilled, but need a new 4-40 tap before I can tap the other holes. The "self-tapping" screws that come with the base pads sure as hell don't cut into stainless, all it did when I tried was crush the threads and make a nice smooth screw with no threads...Will have to finish it tomorrow now...then I will have 8 mags done this way.
Oh I get that but seems a little soon. I do tip my hat at 20-30k rounds in 6 months. Holy hot damn!
Pulling bullets today then I will load some more 44. I have some 10mm to pull and then a couple hundred 45 ACP. And my wife says I don't know how to have fun!!!
I don't. I'm sure we will meet one day. So on a serious note do any of you hot shot 1050 guys run a fully automated press? I've seen a couple youtube videos where they have a motor on a pulley system running the handle...
Nope to much can and will go wrong. Plus they cost a lot of money and a you can already load fast on a 1050.
When it's not broken. [Dissed]
Anybody have a lead hardness tester?
For pulled, jacketed bullets, that have been loaded at a bad angle, and some of the copper jacketing removed, should I just trash them, or save them for someone to melt down? Same question for smashed up plated bullets.
Okay, I'll save them in a bag for the lead guys I guess.
made some room to walk around , organized press spares and tooling.
Did the OCD prep work on 250 pieces of LC 556 brass for match ammo.
Size, clean, trim, debur, uniform pockets and flash holes, then separate by weight.
then loaded 50 rounds of test loads using 77gr SMK's.
Didn't exactly happen in the reloading room, but I test-fired a bunch of my 53gr Hornady reloads alongside some factory Federal .223 and the reloads POI is withing 1/2" of the Feds at 100yds and 200yds!
I took a guess at a mid-range load for the 53gr, and it actually worked out. It's true what they say about blind squirrels.
Cleaned and vacuumed up more stuff. Just to get it off the floor. Now I need to build some shelves to hold even more tools.
Cleaned off more items to donate to the Summit County Shooting Range's 1st annual garage sale...
Looked for the rest of my 300 brass. No luck. Maybe it's out in the garage somewhere.
Watched someone turn my 650 in to a S/Stage, more than once[LOL].
Tumbled another 1500 9mm.
No it wasn't. I do have pictures of said person. I'm buying them one of these, just in Case;)
