I used to buy motorcycles with the same idea in mind. After a decade or so I came to the realization that I rode the damn things all the time for fun & went on road trips that I otherwise wouldn't have. Net result was probably a break even on the mpg front but I finished way ahead in the fun category. [Beer]
I wasn't going to say anthing, but....
Say you now have a $200 bike payment, and $25 a month on insurance. If you are saving $30 on gas a month riding that, you are still spending $195 more a month than you did before. Not to mention all the extra gear you should purchase, the added maintenance cost with another vehicle. I try and make people aware of that point before they buy a bike. Yes you are getting 40mpg vs 12, but the cost over time, it would have just been better to spend the extra on gas. So unless you got the bike for free, you aren't saving any money on gas, and actually spending more a month in other things.
But I told the wife I needed a bike to save on gas as well. :D I am bummed I got rid of it. Loved it.
Sweet bike!
Rangefinder came in today.
