Yeah, growing up in Michigan I've seen racism going in all directions, and turn violent. Even deadly a couple of times. Mostly whites vs blacks, but in the Detroit area there's a large arab population that would get caught up in it too.

I agree with both of you 100%. I am a "transplant" from VA (NN/Norfolk area for any of you squids), and while it was relatively docile when I growing up in the 70's thru the 80's (there were still problems); it has hit new levels now based on my conversations with family and friends there. This just happened in my old haunting grounds, and this news clip is being conservative to say the least:

Again; look at the comments at the bottom of the news feeds... There is a pot brewing, and I hope it doesn't boil...
I agree, to an extent we are sheltered here in Colorado. However, don't be so naive to think the kettle can't explode here as well. The "Zimmerman/Martin" shooting has received more publicity than some of our mass shootings. You now have celebrities (Jamie Fox) promoting the idea of blacks uprising and rioting - nationwide. The day that verdict is going to be handed down, I'm still rollin' heavy...just to be safe. I don't like the idea of getting caught with my pants down. I will put money on it, that if any verdict aside from the 2nd Degree Murder charge is handed down...there will be rioting. It's a powder keg just itching to explode...I pray you are right, that we are sheltered here and the madness doesn't get too out of hand. The last thing Colorado needs is more negative media attention. Right now, all we can do is sit...and wait.
i don't think riots will be an issue if he gets a lesser charge. i am only concerned about them if he gets off free. most people that think hes guilty, that i have seen, actually admit the evidence isn't very strong for murder. they would be fine if it was manslaughter and the like. if completely innocent then yeah i think it could be a problem. but then again i don't know. the trial has gone on long enough that people might have calmed down overall.
I have waited till all the facts from the trial to comment on this case; it is of my opinion that too many people have used this as a political issue, with Liberals for Trayvon and Conservatives for Zimmerman. Both sides are making each persons involved to be above reproach, when in reality both characters seems to have a "complicated" pasts (Zimmerman and Trayvon).
No one can say with 100% certainty what happened on the night these two lives crossed paths: was Zimmerman a "wannabe cop" who tried to take justice into his own hands--OR--was Trayvon a "wannabe thug" who attacked Zimmerman for being a "creepy-ass honky"? The truth usually lies somewhere in between as they say.
It was of my opinion from the beginning that this whole affair was a "he said/she said" scenario (which it has). Only two people will know what really happened on that night are Martin and Zimmerman, with Zimmerman the last man standing to tell his tale. We will never know the truth; however, this is the reason why I believe Zimmerman should be found not-guilty--due to lack of sufficient evidence from the State proving Zimmerman maliciously attacked Martin.
I wish one day America will start thinking of issues beyond that of race but the media clearly loves to peddle these stories in the public arena for both political (media bias) and commercial reasons (this trial has been a rating coupé for the media).
The really sad thing is as a nation racism was dying a slow and quiet death until.........January 21, 2009.
We're not sheltered, just a different way of life. URBAN ( especially liberal states) areas have a entitlement mentality. CO until who knows when, was spared that due to folks actually wanting to work, provide for a family, have something to show for all of it, no matter what color they are. An example on say the east coast would be NY/ NJ even DC. Program after program, over decades of entitlements bred a circle of welfare families.
We moved here 30 years ago and had no clue 25% or our neighborhood was "black" unless you looked at the color of their skin. NO obnoxious music blaring 24/7 NO homes in disrepair, NO crime in the area, NO disrespecting one another , property or way of life, NOTHING. Only wanting to provide and enjoy a color blind life style.
Urban or suburban, East or west coast, even southern areas like Houston , forget it. black on black crime, black on white etc. It's how folks are raised that relates to their perception of respect AND Race.
The media as you pointed out serves one purpose and that is to Inflame, Incite then Indite. Objective journalism has been gone for decades, replaced by Hit and puff pieces on whoever they like or dislike. The comments be it for the trial or even "common sense" gun laws are no different.
Also the populace at large elect the same bomb throwers year after year after year in urban areas.
Don't like something in a liberal area, RIOT
Don't like something in CO, RECALL.
last item is WHITE GUILT. that's self explanatory.
Same for chitown or that chocolate city, Norlins. Crime is out of contro,l black on black violence is so far gone, Nothing outside of strict enforcement of the law and prison time can help diminish it.
HOWEVER for that to happen the Sharptons, jacksons, white guilt liberals would need to admit it's not race relations that have failed, it's their failure to act early, their failure to admit their own are to blame, that did. Instead "they" blame guns from out lying areas, racism and whitey's failure to provide education, that's the cause.
It AIN'T THE MAN THAT'S KEEPING YOU DOWN. IT'S YOURSELF.
