Please, by all means... announce yourself as gay to everyone. Friends. Family. Co-workers. EVERYONE. Do this seriously and w/o any joking term and then own it and see how much 'better' your life gets. I have a feeling you won't be seeing any gravy train pull into town anytime soon. What he did was brave because of all of those reasons I just listed. It's sad that we're in 2013 and not only is this news but then I have to listen to ignorant statements denying the same rights to others that they hold dear. Whatever. Good luck with fighting for your 2nd amendment rights while you deny civil rights to everyone else who doesn't fit your mold of what an American should be.
It's actually nothing alike. Tebow worse his religion on his sleeve and agree with it or not, his choice is a protected right. Collin's 'choice' (even if you do believe it's a choice) was something he had to hide and live with every day for fear of persecution & losing everyone in his life that he loved. Black gay athlete? Good luck with all that. White Christian male athlete in America? Oh, you pooor baby. Life must have been SO hard! Please.
I think you could almost argue that being religious in today's world gets you mocked more so than being gay. At least in the public eye. I hear a lot more people that think religion is foolish and think you're ignorant to believe in it. They almost look down upon you. However, coming out and being gay gets you support now. It's not quite like it was 50 years ago. I'm not saying the gay life is an easy one. But how many people mocked Tebow for his religion? No one questions someone that doesn't believe in religion but if you don't believe in gay marriage, society labels you as a bigot.
