There is so much shit that goes on with GMO's... it's not even funny. Most of the population has no idea of what they eat anymore though. As Jim said, a lot of the other crap people eat, comes from places that are much worse... Still, the case of the lab rats from the longest running GMO study ever done, it lasted for two years. Before the lab rat study, the longest GMO test ever only went on for 244 days. Most other GMO studies only lasted for 90 days. They have only tested for acute affects, but not one till the lab rat test ever tested for chronic affects. The thing about GMO's, is that they are patented, and they can control who test them, and what tests can be done on them here in the states. It also says a lot that the higher ups in Monsanto eat organic food.... How many people on this forum even know the depths of Monsanto, and the people who work for them, and then work for other companies that are supposed to be looking after Monsanto? If you want to inspire a conspiracy theory in yourself, look into Monsanto more, holy shit.....
Here are some interesting tid bits...
Senior Vice President for Clinical Affairs at Monsanto Michael A. Friedman, is now the Acting Commissioner of the FDA.
Top Monsanto Scientist that oversaw the approval of rBGH, Margaret Miller, was appointed Deputy Director of FDA in 1991.
The attorney for Monsanto for 7 years, previous Head of Monsanto Washington D.C. Office Michael Taylor was in 2010 appointed Senior Advisor to FDA Commissioner.
Former Monsanto Lawyer Clarence Thomas was appointed to U.S. Supreme Court in 1991.
Anne Veneman served on board of directors at Calgene, a Monsanto Biotech subsidiary, and was appointed head of USDA in 2001.
Monsanto's Vice President of public and government affairs Linda Fisher, was appointed Deputy Administration in the EPA.
Ever wonder why nothing bad ever comes of the "testing" of most GMO foods?
That's just the beginning....
Genetically modified virus plague? Makes me think of AIDS...zombies will probably come from NY courtesy of the US taxpayer...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plum_Island_(New_York)
Oh... I forgot....
Most of Monsanto's GMO crops are registered as insectisides, like BT corn.
Ever wonder how they make these plants? The way they make these new modified plants is by injecting new information into their DNA structure, they have to invade the plants DNA. How do they do this? By using the best "invaders" they know of, viruses and bacteria. The most common bacteria they use is Ecoli. Yes, Ecoli is a common part of GMO foods now. That's just the beginning though. So, what they do is modify, inject the bacteria with the new genetic code to do what they want. Now, the bacteria has the genetic code needed to do what the scientists want (that was a very fast explanation of the bacteria change). To get the new DNA into the plant is tricky. The plants cells have defense protocals that won't allow the new DNA into the cell, it rejects it... So, how do they get the new DNA into the plant cells to reproduce? The most common way is to give a plant that they want to change, cancer... Cancer cells get overlooked by the plant, just like by the human body. That's why they use cancerous cell DNA to do their dirty work. Luckily for Monsanto, Ecoli, and the other pathogens they use, cause cancer in most plants when directly injected with the modified pathogen's DNA. After the injected plant gets cancer from the direct injection (put the genetic information directly into a full grown plant), they take these new cancer cells, and disect them to pull out its DNA. So, they then take the cancerous cells genetic information, and inject it into the regular cells of the developing plant, that won't reject the new DNA now. That, is how your GMO food is made....
An astonishing amount of fraud comes from the mouths of ant-GMO activists.
FDA does not show it to good for you, just not harmful in limited qty.
Look at Aspertame. Breaks down to Methanol and Formaldehyde in the human body. Interesting one of the key reasons FDA says its OK, is because Methanol is found in fruits. However, they never address that when found in fruits, its bound to Pectin, which our bodies cannot break that bond, thus we pass it thru. Where in the case of free Methanol we absorb it. If you look back you'll find a number of folks died during prohibition because they accidentally produced methanol, and a whole 100ml, about 4oz is lethal. But ingesting it daily thru diet, and sugar free is OK? Do what you want, but Im not going to make lifelong decisions based on a few month of studies that say something is safe.
My philosophy is to use the more natural stuff in moderation. Diet Coke with aspartame is not an excuse to drink a "liter a cola" a day. Sugar is pretty much sugar...or is there GMO sugar now?
