Braved the frozen fields today with Steps and Killanak9 and had a BLAST. The Pdogs were active early on despite the near freezing temps and snow on the ground. Not as active as warmer weather, but plenty enough to shoot at. Longest shot was around 250 yards but most were 100-200. And yes, Pdog guts & blood splattered on the snow is even more impressive than on dirt!
He'll be fine, tape an aspirin to it and he will back on his feet in no time...

and with snow on the ground they stand out very well. They don't move as fast, just like me....Plus, if you have the right clothing and a shooters mat, it's a kick in the pants. Red mist in the winter sunlight is such a b-e-a-utiful sight...One tidbit though, if you have a subsonic gun use it in the winter, you'll get more shooting....
Got my first "one shot/two kills" today. Shot from about 150 yards with a .223 55 grn ZMAX out of my Bushmaster Varminter. Hit both Pdogs in the mid section, blowing the guts out a huge hole on the first, and a smaller hole on the second. The first died instantly, the second was still crawling around with just his front legs and his intestines dragging behind him, so I put him out of his misery with headshot from my Glock. That was on my first shot of the day!

My boy got his first the other day.
Marlin 243win with 30 MPH winds coming from our 8 o'clock, dog was moving right to left at 225 yards with a hornady 58 grain moly coated projo. Leaves the muzzle around 3750fps. That sucker is moving!!!
I've never seen a prairie dog fly 10 feet in the air before!
