Sorry to hear this story, I really wish it was a dead intruder story instead. Hope you feel secure soon.
I looked it up. $200 for the box and required monthly service.
I'm looking at Wink because they partner with Chamberlain (for my wifi opener setup) and others, but still looking for a relay to detect an unlocked safe bolt in addition the the sensors for motion, temp, etc.
Be very glad that if your family was home that we don't live in a antigun utopia, because they wouldn't have thought twice about braking in. But most punks know not to B&E a house in America when someone is home, because you don't know if they have a gun or not. And saying "I have a gun" is usually enough. You don't want to argue with someone like that.
Cameras are good but if you have the coin and you are really paranoid I would suggest a panic room.
I will keep my eyes out for scumbags selling anything that matches your stuff and report back. Sometimes you get lucky.
coincidentally I was browsing the site yesterday while my girlfriend was kinda of chillen next to me. (I'll be quick here). GF is young, and has never been around guns or literally ever even had protection cross her mind. to the point where the last time I went to her house, she didn't even have the front door locked.
well her and I had just talked about this stuff last week for essentially the first time. everything from situational awareness, to locking your car doors in the parking lot, basically starting from scratch. If it means anything to you bro, she happened to read this thread with me,, and is now VERY interested in getting up to speed on personal safety, home protection etc. Shes coming into a situation where I have a son, who she will be, at least in part, responsible for at times, and this thread pushed her into action.
thank you for sharing. and remember there's silver linings in there. learning from small examples like this, (your wife, my GF etc) is what prevents something really bad from happening in the future. Thanks!
That sucks. I hear what you are saying about the piece of mind (will they come back?) part. My wife and I were home when somebody tried to break in. It took years before we could sleep soundly at night, without waking up when the house creaked. You've already started your analysis and taken some steps to take control of the situation. Good luck with that. If it helps, here is my experience:

There was a story on News4 tonight about a rash of break ins in your area. I only caught the last part of the segment but they appear to have video/phot of the perps. Hope they catch them and even if you don't get your stuff back, they put the slime away and keep them off the streets.
Sorry to hear about what happened.
Hardest thing will be proper security system sensor selection, placement, and layering. This becomes difficult especially with pets. I have done a DIY install of a commercial UL rated system in last 6 places I have lived. If you have any questions or are looking for advice during install, please PM me.
Im very happy that you GF has heeded the warning and is looking at protecting herself. It upsets me greatly that we even have to consider these things, but it is a sad truth these days. My wife will not even go room to room without the pistol very close right now and that pisses me off. But like you said, we can all learn from these experiences.
I posted up a year or so ago about a good friend of mine who walked in on two intruders at her house near park meadows. the year I bought my house in stonegate (bout 4 years ago) there was a forcible entry forcible rape.... in stonegate... parker...
this shit is here. it's not going away. It upsets me too that the current state of our society requires a higher level of vigilance than it used too, but these small (I know it's not small for you yet, but comparatively) examples and reacting the right way is what keeps our loved ones safe... if you need anything or want a beer or something, let us know man..
