I was summoned for jury duty when I was 22, it was a great experience. Trial took 3 days I think. It was an insurance fraud trial and the defendant was guilty as hell. I ended up being the jury foreman and I enjoyed it a lot. So much so that I decided to study law when I went back to college in 1996.
Yeah, this too. People bitch about jurors being stupid, letting criminals walk, convicting innocent people, outrageous civil awards, etc, but then a lot of those same people do everything they can to get out of jury duty. So what do you want? A jury of people who are intelligent and who care about what happens in society or a jury of slack-jawed mouth breathers who are only there because they weren't clever enough to get out of it?
If you look around the world, you'll see that "lay juries" (that is, juries made up of people who are ordinary citizens and not legal professionals) are pretty rare. In fact, to my knowledge the only countries that have lay juries are Commonwealth countries (i.e. the UK and its former colonies) and the US.
As a member of the bar I assume I'll never be seated on a jury again, though I wouldn't mind doing so. It really is an interesting experience if you approach it with an open mind.
I would like to sit on a jury. I have lived in Larimer County for almost 30 years and have only been called once, the defendant took a deal right before selection started.
My wife sat on the jury for a murder trail. She said it was very interesting and really enjoyed it. They found the guy guilty.
I would love to be on a jury but the financial situation would be awful for me. My wife stays at home with the kid and while we have a sizeable chunk in savings we couldn't afford to burn through it for nothing. $50 a few? Get real. And I believe my company only pays full pay for 3 days. If it was nothing big it would be fine but a longer case and I would be screwed.
There are only a few on this board I would not encourage to fullfill their civic duty by serving on a jury.
My wife has been called twice and was seated both times.
I was called three times and my number came up once. I was sure I would get rejected...was selected for a criminal trial and was voted to be the jury foreman.
Let's see, best friend is a cop, involved female officer was a partner of my wife's best friend's brother. I had testified in front of the same judge as an expert, have a professional license, NRA member, told the PD I thought most sentences were too lenient during jury questioning. Answered that drugs and alcohol use is no excuse for behavior no matter how "out of it" a person was.
It was a very interesting process and I was happy to do it and would do it again if called.
That was a long day. Seated on criminal assault/harassment. Evidence was pretty straight forward. Guy was guilty but one juror felt he was completely innocent with no good reasoning. Took awhile to convince him he was guilty, guy who was foreman did an outstanding job !
Hopefully that's my last time, bladder was not happy at all. Haha
Glad to hear it!
Son of a biscuit! I just got a notice today.
This is about the 8th time I have been called up, lucky me. My wife has only been called up once in her life? I'm not sure how they run this but I wish the lottery was run the same, I would be a rich man!

Jury wheel. Every time you move or change a voting record in some form, it comes back into the pool sooner than others. Selection comes from voter, dmv, county records and various other sources.
I've been called a couple of times, county/district/city and the wife hasn't been called at all.
Each year, the Judicial Branch receives lists of names including registered voter records, drivers’ licenses, non-driver ids, and state income tax records.
