I am all for the open carry inside the church.
However if all congregation bring plate carrier, msr, shotgun, it will kinda look like those weird cult type of church. [LOL]
As part of a church security team, it will definitely freak a few people out if you open carry. The team will also keep a heavy eye on the open carrier the entire time. If you choose to do so, which you can and that's okay, I'd recommend expecting a conversation with a security person or the police about why you are open carrying. In this day and age, it's a great way to draw unnecessary attention to yourself.
All easily avoidable if you carry concealed instead.

As far as legality, if a church is considered private property, and you have permission of the property owner (or responsible party, like a pastor/rabbi/priest), then open carry should be legal. Prudent is another matter entirely, for reasons already beaten to death above.
Our church security team would ask you to cover your firearm. We don't have a problem with CCW but open carry is discouraged. We've only had one person refuse to cover and they left so problem solved. If someone refused to cover and to leave we'd probably call the PD for trespass.
Open carry anywhere in the city of Denver is bad idea. Open carry in rest of metro area will get you more attention than you want.
If you're unarmed you are a victim
I'm not saying that at all. Hell, I even match the color of my watches to the color of my belt buckles. What I'm saying is that if your goal is 'pretty', then you're wearing the gunleather that needs to be seen rather than concealed. The same type of gunleather that would carry a fine looking BBQ gun.
A Court gun and Church gun are the same thing. They're more understated and more closely related to a service piece, without the wear marks. This gun only gets used on special days. The leather carrying a Church gun should match and look nice. You need to look like you have your shhhhtuff together, but you're not being ostentatious.
For those that don't understand the reference;
Court guns and BBQ guns.
