I got a ticket for 69 in a 45 going up 285 in Morrison in early March just after the shut downs started. 6 point ticket. Got a letter about a month later from the City of Morrison with the offer of reducing it to a 3 point driving too fast for conditions ticket if I paid instead of going in to court which was closed at the time. That section of road is nothing but a revenue collection point for Morrison. I know I wasn?t driving 69 (Jeep Wrangler up hill around those corners, no way) and the ticket if written for 70 would have required a summons for court, how convenient was that? but how do you prove that kind of thing?
Someone should open a bar called the Boars Nest in that town.
170 bucks is definitely a win here. My 87 in a 55 in Denver several years ago netted them almost 400 bucks, and cost me 3 points. I forget what bullshit infraction actually ended up on my record.
Until your insurance carrier surreptitiously drops your small accident forgiveness because your (spouse in my case) had a "defective vehicle citation," you have a small accident, make a claim expecting no affect, and they jack your rates.
Wait, did you make a claim or not? That sounds fishy but I might be misreading.
I made a claim. Should have just paid it.
Me $500 deductible
Ins $2200 paid to shop
Agent told me it would be at fault due to amount (hit a parking lot pole) but I had forgiveness on the policy so didn't sweat it.
Turns out they dropped that forgiveness due to the wife's ticket but didn't cover that with me when I filed a claim.
Fucked my rates. Of course, so did annual rate increases and a new vehicle. Damn near 50% increase since last year.
Been with them for 15 years and now they're screwing with me.
Ahhhh I see, couple of things going on there.
Complete bullshit that they'd drop the accident forgiveness due to a defective vehicle ticket. They know damn well that is a drop down charge and isn't indicative of an accident.
I got one, many years ago, when I was stationed in Hawaii... 90 in a 55. It was a $1600 fine (+lawyer costs and court fees), 30 days of weekend jail, 100 hours of community service, a defensive driving class, and a written letter of apology to Honolulu county. Then they put a hold on my license so that years later, here in Colorado, I could not renew it until I sent them more money and proof that I was carrying some kind of high risk car insurance that I had to pay extra for.
Long story short... be careful where you speed and what kind of lawyer you hire.
