All I know is, I ended up vastly over-stocking on N95/KN95 masks up to this point. But who knew how many my family (including parents on both sides) would need or how many we would go through? I went from feeling like I didn't have nearly enough when things looked like they were getting sporty to having what seems a ridiculous supply now. Ended up not burning through them nearly as fast or as often as I thought. But I'm just going to hold onto them now that I have them. If things flare up again and the mandates go back into effect later, I'll have them. Or . . . will come in handy with some DIY projects and occasional attic work.
Several places I've gone had dropped the mask mandate (Costco, Walmart, Sam's) but tons of people were still wearing them. Safeway and Qdoba near me still required them for entry.
I went to Costco today, sans mask. As God intended. Nobody asked for proof of vaccination.
What I did see was everyone in a family wearing masks including the little kids. Little girl riding in the cart was saying, "I have counted 10 people not wearing masks!" Dad was telling her, "It's OK."
Welcome to the most compliant generation this country will ever know. As. By. Design.
When I walked into Costco yesterday, I had a mask in my hand just in case. Almost everyone coming out and going in wore one, so I assumed they were keeping the policy. But, I held it up to the guy at the door and said "is this optional or no?" he said optional if you were fully vaccinated. Which I am . . . but, how would they even know? I said ok, I'm good and walked in. I'd say 90% of everyone in there was still masked. Same with Wally World today.
Harbor Freight also was mask required today. Figured they would have dropped it like a bad habit, but no.
I don't follow Covid news, and it was by accident that I even clicked on an article saying that Colorado was lifting the restrictions this weekend. I wonder how many people don't know. A lot of it is habit. This generation isn't any more or less compliant than any other generation.
That may be true. WW2 we had significant rationing and press censoring. Not that it wasn't necessary. Most people didn't bitch about whether or not the troops were actually needing/getting (x) grocery item though; and simply complied. Yet among many groups of people there was significant rule bending and even outright forgery of ration books. It is not apples to apples, but it shows even when a cause is quite justified, some will drive in the lines and others will do anything they can to drive on the shoulder - even in cases where society is in agreement of the morality of it. (It is not in agreement on covid. Back then, but forging and buying/selling rations stamps was morally wrong, yet many, many people did it anyway, cause gotta make pie for church potluck)
I'm not trying to pick on Gman, but let's not be silly. Here are some pictures of the same compliant population, and these aren't toddlers.

I stopped wearing a mask in Lowes a couple months ago and they haven't had any issues. Of course they were one of the last stores to even require them so I figured they wouldn't mind.
I'm looking forward to Costco without a mask. They've been very strict about it.
I went into Noodles yesterday to grab my pickup without a mask, people gave me some sideways glares, but stayed quiet.
I've never made my kids wear masks in stores this entire time. My 11 year old does anyway because she's used to it from school and doesnt want any confrontation. I tell her she can take it off, but she keeps it on usually. Her choice. My 7 year old won't wear them anywhere it's not absolutely required which is pretty much only school. She's never worn one in a store. The 3 year old obviously doesn't.
JeffCo said they will still require them in school, which is total BS. But I suspect the teachers have pressured them for that policy. They better not require them in fall.
Over the weekend ended up in Flatirons Church in Lafayette, the Evergreen Walmart, Home Depot and throughout Colorado Mills Mall. I didn't wear a mask and it felt brazen and revolutionary! Except for at church where a minority was wearing masks, everywhere else it was closer to 98% masks. The signs are still up at the doors to stores, but no enforcement. I saw several people look at me without a mask for a couple seconds and you can see their wheels spinning, and then they would take their masks off or pull it down to their chin.
I'm vaccinated so I'm not doing it to flip off "the man". But wow was that weird to be in a crowded mall and be the only person without a mask.
