On the topic of boots:

At one point in my life, I did field work for 12-15 hours a day. Those days are past me, but I still have very specific taste in a quality work boot. Leather, uninsulated, solid ankle support, waterproof. I used to love the Timberland Pro series because it checked all those boxes, but the last two pairs I had only lasted two years before the souls started separating. I am currently wearing some Ariat 9-hole lace ups that check all the boxes, and have held up surprisingly well for four years now. But the toe box is way narrower than the Timberland Pros, and these days when I am in the field for a few hours, my toes let me know it.

Anyone got any manly suggestions for a wider leather lace-up boot that is uninsulated and waterproof?

And also a mammography enthusiast.

I tend to walk out a pair of boots in 9 months to a year. I've been happy with bates tactical sport 8" side zip and a can of water proofer both from scheels. Side zip allows me to lace tight for inclines and unzip for windshield time. They absolutely fall apart walking in flood waters for a day though. Still for $80 I carry a spare pair.

Manly is subjective, as women can do a lot of manly shit and sometimes better than men do. I would add that age and having to get something done while battling adversity certainly plays a factor. I had hand surgery today and I'm gonna try to mow the front yard tomorrow which involves moving a lot shit around in the barn to get the mower ready in the first place. Manly?....fuck I dunno. But I'm gonna try.

A little late to the party on boots, but Carolina Boots 28 Series is my go to.

After years in the O/G world, tower climbing, etc, they are still the most comfortable and most durable that I have found. I can get about 2 years out of a pair where as Ariats, RedWings, etc (all the big brands) were good for about 1 year.

Here's something manly for ya...

We really need cabinet and countertop space in the new house. And we needed new cabinets...badly. We wanted to maximize the amount of cabinet and countertop space. We needed one cabinet along a wall next to the fridge...it's a short wall. I measured the wall and the space for the base cabinet. Great. 40" cabinet will be wonderful. 39" is the largest they have that will fit in the space. Close enough.

Get the cabinet home and start to install it. Fits into the space but doesn't line up with the edge of the wall cabinet above the fridge. What the hell? The cabinet is the correct size. Unfortunately, I made a 1 1/2" error in measuring the wall. I slid the tape behind the fridge till it stopped and measured. Unfortunately, it stopped against a water pipe for the fridge dispenser.

So now I have cabinets that don't fit between the fridge and the doorway into the utility room.

What Would a Manly Man Do?

Move that damn door. So that's what I did. Move a door opening so a larger cabinet will fit.

Luckily, it was actually pretty easy to fix my colossal fuck-up. I just had to take the pre-hung door out that I just installed, remove the trim piece on one side that I left in place when it was just an opening, nail in a 2x4 and rehang the door. It gave me an extra 2 1/4 inches along the wall for the 39" cabinet and allows plenty of space for the countertop.
