I still think that those pistol bayonets look cool. More useful than a laser on a long range rifle too.
I'm not trying to justify the usefulness of a a pistol bayonet.
Yes you are...
Well... it IS on a Taurus semi-auto...Quote:
Then just what ARE you trying to justify?
I read about this on the Army Times website a few weeks ago. When I went through basic, I always thought the bayonet training was possibly a little out dated, and a bit of a novelty... BUT that was almost 10 years ago, I was a 'lil young/dumb! I realize now how much it was GOOD for the warrior spirit, and helped build that mentality. Honestly, I know it adds a little length to the end of your weapon, but I wouldn't mind having a bayonet attached when clearing rooms! I would expect the soldiers around me to be trained how to use it also!
If they want to concentrate more on the PT side of things a little more, they should extend basic another week or two to allow the extra time to smoke those recruits into shape! Cardio and core strength exercises is going to be very beneficial to keeping these soldiers fit and combat ready, but they also need to concentrate on the combat mindset with things like the bayonet course, to truly make these soldiers combat effective!
It raises my curiosity why they have not adopted classroom training in the first few weeks on how to keep the right combat mindset, and covered the psychological and physical aspects of what is going to happen to your body and mind in combat (insert excerpts from Col. Grossman...). It would make for a better prepared soldier that would be more combat effective when TSHTF and they are fighting for the life of their buddies and themselves!
I recommend to all new recruits in the Army to do a little research for yourself on these things to better prepare you for the realities of a force on force encounter. It will benefit you in the long run! Take some extra classes on hand to hand combat, preferably from somebody with military or police experience. Read up on the combat mindset and what you need to believe to come out on top. You will be a much better soldier for it!
