Fifi is supposed to be all ready to go, brand-new custom built engines and all. I can't wait!Quote:
And sadly, last I heard, FIFI was grounded awaiting new engines. I bet it happens, though.
I was at the airshow when the F-86 'bought the farm'. I was listening on my scanner. Not a fun sight to see the 86 hit the ground and to know that the pilot was gone...
For what it's worth, if you're ever down in Pueblo the airport here has a museum with a B-29 in really excellent shape. They have "open cockpit days" usually a couple times a year where you can actually climb inside it. I shot video and took a bunch of pics. Pretty amazing.
H.
I was there for the F86 and watched it hit the ground, sad event.
The one you all saw this weekend was a YAK-3 according to my sources who were working a fly-in airshow at Erie Airport. (lafeyette area)

Probably. There is an aviation lawyer that has one at APA.
When is the airshow? I have my first solo jump at Mile High in Longmont on the 28th.
I used to take my students there when I was instructing. pretty cool!
the one up here "wings over the rockies" museum is awesome! One of my college professors used to do a lot of work there...the guy was beyond old, I think he said he knew the wright brothers, and he had lunch with Sikorsky several times. he had an amazing collection though, knew pretty much everything about aviation history and a mind like a steel trap.
We were watching that show on Saturday before he burned in on Sunday. Truely a sad event.
On a sidenote-we used to watch the airshows from the CDOT shed that was on the east side of Wadsworth. It was pretty cool to be on the top of the dome for salt/sand and watch. One time when the Angels or similar were practicing a couple of days before we were watching from there and they were pulling pylon turns. We could see straight into the cockpit as they were banking.
Horsepower............
But I do have a love for the warbirds. The epitome of piston power. Always had a love for the B-17 and the Mustang, Jug and Lightning. My mom grew up in Nebraska and had Lightenings buzz her town during WWII. She still gets a smile when she mentions it.
The last time we were @ Jeffco I got some cool video of this old gal:
