You might also just try plain old acidophilus (it works for someone I know). Sprinkle half a capsule into some wet food, and everyone is much happier. If it works, then you don't need all the other enzymes in the product above.
"Acidophilus is a powdered form of a bacteria called 'lactobacillus.' It is used when the intestines have been compromised by illness, stress, or the use of medications like antibiotics. In these situations, the normal 'friendly' bacteria which help in digestion often die and are replaced by bacteria which tend to cause problems such as increased intestinal gas and diarrhea. The lactobacillus bacteria are used to help prevent overgrowth of these undesirable bacteria, and allow the 'friendly' bacteria to recover their normal numbers."
yup its most likely diet. My dog used to have it all the time real bad.
We switched him to a quality dog food which does not use any type of corn product as its first 10 ingredients. It help quite a bit.
Those few times he does have it bad we give him a Gas-X pill....does the job
Might want to look into Blue Buffalo brand dog food...
i started her on raw chicken mixed with activia yogurt and green beans, she doesnt stink now like gas and she didnt poop in the house last night, she is doing better now
Glock21- Way to go!
Mama said boiled chicken and rice, along with the activia and green beans will be a good diet for 3 or 4 days to get her stomach settled and digestive system back on track. Don't overfeed her, she is not gonna starve- small portions 3 or 4 times a day is actually better. You can substitute hamburger but red meat can be a bit on the rich side for a tender tummy.
Turkey and ham in small doses are ok as well.
If you notice her stool being soft add a dollop of sweet potato or pumpkin- the fiber helps balance the moisture in the intestines.
You won't need to feed her this bland diet forever, just long enough to get her gut settled after that she will need a balanced diet with proper vitamins, nutrients and calcium. A great way to add calcium is to crush up egg shells as fine as you can and add it to her food. She probably is calcium deficient with having had the litters of pups she has.
FYI- Onions, Grapes and Avocado are TOXIC to a dog.
The offer still stands if you want to meet the Mrs. at her store on Sunday and bring the dog with. She is sure she can set you up with some free samples.
We found ourselves with a black lab pup recently with the worst farts I have ever encountered, including my own. I mean, she would fart and we would leave the house, and then come back to the same fart. It was...bad. We changed her food out to some no-corn no-wheat stuff and she isn't nearly as farty, still a little turd, just doesn't smell like it anymore.
