Same sh*t different group. SHTF I'm coming over to your house.
1. I'm a Gated community of One!
2. Just because we work together don't assume that I like you!
3. You didn't help me out what so ever when I have asked for it!
4. I know you have absolutely nothing to help me or the cause out!
5. Piss the FU*K Off!!
I've put off all kinds of stuff, just like last time, because I have other things to use my money for. I'll just have to wait until next time I guess.
Anyway, a family member has been talking about buying a gun for a long time. Last night we met at a gun store 15 minutes minutes before closing. He walked in, I pointed, he started filling out paper work.
My response is always to shrug and say 'Good luck getting in'.
So, update (thursday)
Person 1. I spent an hour on the phone going over all their options. (what do you want a gun to be used for? what's your budget, blah blah blah). They live in suburbia (houses on top of each other) and they say "I want home defense first of all and i want an AR15"
No you don't. Only if you are willing to go thru your neighbor's house adn his neighbor's house. For home defense in your situation that's not the tool. Now look I'm all about AR15's and before my horrible boating accident, i might have had one or two, but if you can only afford one gun and your priority is home defense, then a nice shotgun is a better tool. Cheaper, more instinctive (less practice, they won't ever go to the range, I already know), less chance of overtravel, etc.
Then she says (his wife) oh, well I might want something to carry.
Well, take the class first. how are you going to carry it (what location, where? when?), what size, etc. oh well, we'll just start with looking at shotguns.
so, of course, they come home with a Walther pistol (seriously, WTF, who even owns one of these? maybe decent, maybe not, but I can think of 10 pistols I would point a first timer to before that) and a AR15
So, they spent over their budget, didn't solve either one of their problems (home defense or carry) and didn't listen to one fucking word that i said. Now, great, i'm all about guns, BUT DON'T WASTE MY FUCKING TIME asking for advice if you aren't going to listen.
Person 2.
Says he wants something to carry and then for the nightstand. Well, that's two different jobs but we can certainly start there. I give a ton of suggestions, i actually show him some different stuff from my collection before we go to the gun store so he has some general ideas and he seems to be honing in on what I think all of us would think are reasonable solutions for the problem at hand, given that he needs to try some and see how they fit.
he calls up today, blah blah blah and I say "bring money".
Well, i might not buy today.
Well don't waste my or the gun store's time then. This shit is not ok when it's crazy fucking busy. You want to finger fuck 100 guns and then not buy the one you like the best? They are busy (hugely busy) and I'm not wasting their time. They don't know you, but they do know me and I do a lot of business there.
So, now he can't go because I won't waste hours of my time for him not to buy something.
Fucking ASKholes (people who ask for your advice and then ignore it)
From now on my advice is "glock"
well we want to do X,y,z
yeah, glock, next person in line please.
i don't even care what the problem is, you wont' listen to what i say anyway, so what difference does it make?
I must concur with Cofi...Shotguns are great, but you can still short-stroke the pump if you don't have good form, and too mamy people think that a shotgun has a 45-degree wide target area...
I think that for home defense, you're much better off with a high-cap pistol with a high-intensity weapon light. Gives you more freedom of movement (can operate with one hand), has the stopping power needed (assuming correct caliber & type of round), light can be used for clearing spaces & disorentation of the attacker, and as long as you apply sound CQB principals (properly slice the pie, etc.) then weapon retention should not be as much of an issue...(and how many of people using rifles/shotguns for HD are actually using their slings properly anyway?)
my 2 cents.....
"She will ask for your advice
Your reply will be concise
Then she'll go out and do precisely
What she wants!"
